Open source data integration platform Airbyte acquires Grouparoo

Airbyte, an open source data integration platform , announced today that it has acquired Grouparoo, an open source startup focused on helping businesses synchronize data between their data warehouses and cloud-based applications.

The acquisition complements Airbyte's existing offerings, as Airbyte focuses on loading data into data warehouses, while Grouparoo specializes in manipulating that data.

Airbyte co-founder and CEO Michel Tricot noted that the Grouparoo team has always focused on making its services accessible to non-technical audiences, something that Airbyte has been focusing on for a long time. He hopes the team can help Airbyte build UI tools to connect to more third-party services.

Grouparoo CEO and co-founder Brian Leonard said in the announcement:

Airbyte and Grouparoo share many similarities in culture, approach, and technology, and by combining our experiences, we can better accomplish Grouparoo's mission of making people's data actionable.

The companies did not disclose the price of the acquisition. Grouparoo previously raised about $3 million in a seed round led by Eniac Venture and Fuel Capital in late 2020. And Airbyte raised $150 million in a Series B round at the end of 2021 at a valuation of more than $1.5 billion.
