I get the salary data from this website (https://h1bdata.info/index.php), which indexes the Labor Condition Application (LCA) data of the Department of Labor (DOL). When a company intends to hire an employee who needs an H1B visa guarantee, they need to submit an LCA to the DOL before submitting an H1B visa application. The LCA contains data related to the company, salary, and position, which are all publicly available.
I searched the salary data of data scientists in the following regions from the website mentioned above (if you want to crawl it yourself, you can find the crawler code on my GitHub: https://github.com/yiuhyuk/ds_salary_h1b) (I mainly focus on the United States West Coast, because I live and work there):
San Francisco Bay Area (San Francisco, San Jose, Cupertino, Mountain View, Palo Alto, etc.);
Seattle (including Microsoft Redmond);
Austin
Los Angeles (including Santa Monica).
In addition, this salary analysis is only for data scientists, so it does not include more experienced data science positions such as senior data scientists or employee data scientists, nor data analysts.
After filtering through these filters, I got 2818 samples.
It should be noted that this is salary data related to H1B, so the salary data used for analysis does not include the income of US citizens. Since I have not seen any negative evidence, I will assume that the salary data of US citizen data scientists and data scientists with green cards also follow the same trend as the H1B data.
The annual salary is hovering around 120,000 US dollars
Looking at the picture below, you will find that the median annual salary of these data scientists is $120,000, and the trend is quite stable according to the annual salary. But one thing to keep in mind is that this median is only the basic salary and does not include cash bonuses, stocks, and benefits. Therefore, the overall median salary for data scientists may be much higher than these.

This picture only includes the companies involved in the sample that employ 10 or more data scientists-if a company only hires one data scientist, even if he or she earns $200,000, this information is useful to you It doesn't make much sense.
You will find that AirBnB, Lyft, Facebook and Apple have salaries as high as $135,000 or more, which is not surprising. What surprises you is that Ancestry.com is actually the main high-paying employer of data scientists (I didn't expect Wal-Mart to be close to the top of the list-I always thought that low prices meant low wages).

I have shown the main employers of data scientists (those employers that have submitted the most H1B applications) in the figure below. As we expected, the top companies are the large technology companies. But it is clear that Google was left out. Regardless of the reason, there is not much information about Google data scientists in the database. Maybe Google uses a different title-I will look into this issue later.
