Simple sentence introduction (basic sentence pattern)

1. My English is very good.
   I speak English well.
2. Beijing West Railway Station, here it is.
   We are arriving at Beijing West Railway Station.
3. The dog was not found.
   I did not find the dog.
4. Listen carefully in class.
   We should listen to the teacher seriously in class.

Verb phrase

• The elephant died.

Subject-predicate table (for the time being as the main system table)

• Table status: be
• 表感官：look smile taste sound feel
  I am no taste for the music .

Special verbs-can be used as both content verbs and copulative verbs

As an actual verb, it means:

• get: get
• turn: turn
• grow: grow
• fall: fall
• keep: continue
• stay: stay

Bin: The main meaning in Chinese is
I invite someone to do something. //This kind of sentence is obviously subject, predicate and object.
Table: expression?
I am a boy. //This kind of sentence is obviously a predicative, modifies oneself, expresses.

Subject-verb double object

My understanding: double objects are two objects.

• He teaches us English.
• He gave me five sugars.
• He bought me a birthday gift.

Subject-verb object-object complement

My understanding: the object complement is a complement to the object.

• You should keep the room clean and tidy.
• We made him our monitor.
• His father told him not play in the street.

Judging whether it is double object or object complement

Whether adding a verb between two objects can be pronounced, because the complement is a complement to the previous object, and if the meaning can be passed, it is an object complement.

Sentence composition (part of speech)

There is no English without part of speech

(1) Predicate

Content verbs and copulas with tense act as predicates. (It doesn’t count as a verb from time to time!)

• Your girlfriend must (be) very beautiful.
  must be a modal verb. Modal verbs cannot be used as predicates.
• My old flame loves me so much.

Practice: Point out the predicate of the following sentences

Can multiple verbs (phrases) appear

• My plan is laughing at those stupid ones.

Focus

• The predicate can only be a verb
• Verbs can only be used as predicates
• So we need to turn all the verbs that are not predicates in a sentence into non-verbs,
  not verbs -non-predicate verbs
  • -ing, which means active
  • -ed, which means passive or complete
  • Add to, purpose or future

It is very hard to finish the work by yourself .

Practice

1. Wuzhen is a water town in Zhejiang. It is located by the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal.
   Wuzhen is a water town in Zhe Jiang Provence, located next to the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal.

2. When winter comes, spring is not far away.
   Winner approaching, spring will be around the corner.

3. Loving you is my biggest fault.
   Loving you is my biggest fault.
   It is my biggest fault to love you.

4. We said goodbye at the train station, tears streaming down our faces as the car went further and further.
   I saw him off at railway station ,seeing the train move away and leaving puddles of tears .

5. After the dance, Dayan went home disappointed.
   The dancing party ended, Dayan went home disappointedly.

Independent nominative

The subject is the same, remove, and keep inconsistency.
Such as: Wuzhen
in the first sentence is omitted as the subject when it is located.

Are verbs available? Absolutely not!

When a sentence requires a verb but no verb, always add the be verb, and the be verb has no meaning.

• Your smile is like a flower.
• I am at home.
• My cat is cute/lovely.
• I am against you. //against is a preposition
• I must beyond you.

In recent years, more and more cities in China have begun to build subways. The development of the subway will help reduce traffic congestion and air pollution in the city. The subway has the advantages of safety, speed and comfort. More and more people choose the subway as their main means of transportation to work or school every day. Nowadays, taking the subway in China is becoming more and more convenient. In some cities, passengers only need to use a card or mobile phone to ride the subway. Many local elderly citizens can also take the subway for free.

My translation (maybe have some errors)

In recent years , a growing number of Chinese cities begun to construct the subways .Developing subways helps reduce the traffic congestion and air pollution. The subway has safety, speed and comfort . A growing number of people choose subways as the main transportation to go to school or work. Today, it is becoming increasingly convenient to ride a subway in China .In some cities ,passengers can take the subway by simply
using a card or cell phone. In addition , a large number of local senior citizens are eligible for free subway rides.

Can the subject be missing? Can't

If there is no subject, four ways to deal with it

1. Add it as the subject: it must be related to weather, temperature, and time.
   eg: Chongqing is very humid
   in winter. In Chongqing, it is humid in winter.
   eg:
   It keeps raining.

2. there be sentence pattern: used when there is no subject in a sentence and you hear "有".
   eg: There are many people who like me.
   There exist a crowd of undergraduates adoring me.
   eg:
   There are numerous factors accounting for my perspective.

3. Changing from Active to Passive
   Generally, sentences that use personal pronouns as the subject can be considered as passive.
   eg: It must be pointed out that persistence is an essential factor for success.
   Perseverance must be pointed out to be an indispensable factor in our success.
   eg: More and more people think that pollution is serious.
   Pollution is realized severe by increasing number of people.

4. Add personal pronouns
   eg:
   We/You/I go to school.

If there is a preposition after the verb, the verb is not passive
Copulatives are not passive
There is no passive when translate into "有"
