All along, Apple's Mac system has been known for its security. And since the brand-new self-developed M1 chip was adopted last year, the security of the system has reached a new height. However, recently, the malware specially designed for Apple's M1 chip has been discovered by researchers.

Patrick Wardle, a Mac system security researcher, published a report explaining in detail how the malware began to be adapted and recompiled to run natively on the M1 chip.

The software was originally written to run on x86 chips. The extension of the malicious program is "GoSearch22" and it is a well-known member of the "Pirrit" Mac campaign software. Pirrit is one of the oldest and most active Mac campaign software, and is known for its constant changes to avoid detection.

Wardle pointed out that because the malware targeting the M1 chip is still in its early stages, anti-virus software is not as easy to detect it as on the x86 version, and anti-virus engines and other defense tools are also working hard to deal with the modified files. The signatures used to detect malware threats on the M1 chip have not yet been substantively observed, so the security tools that can detect and kill it have not yet appeared.
