pi network on October 16th node update and future plans

Welcome to the first Pi conference! In the past few days, we asked the vanguard to come up with a unique name and convene our meeting through the topic of Pi. We received 186,173 suggestions. The community voted about 500,000 times. As a result of this process, a very interesting name came up. Invent this name. A joint invention is similar to a joint invention, which means that we invented Pi together, but it is also similar to a joint invention and convention. So, we decided to follow it.

Credit name: There are 471 pioneers who wrote a joint invention as their suggestion using a combination of different capital letters and additional words. The first person to type "Pi coinvention" was @QasisPi (on 2020-10-08 16:36:45), and the first person to use the exact capital letter we chose was @ Saraskins (on 2020-10-09 11 :07:57 UTC), the entry of this pioneer got the most votes among all options.

Below you can see the summary of this meeting.

1. Summary so far
Update
We recently released node v0.3.4, and now it is version v0.3.6. Unlike previous versions, these latest versions can run the Pi blockchain for selected candidates.

For the past few months, we have been developing this version of node, which allows pioneers to run the blockchain through a user-friendly interface. It took a long time to release this version to all pioneers, because in addition to its development, we had about 10 test release iterations by moderators and voluntary testers before the community release. The purpose of long test iterations is to find and fix as many errors as possible that may be exposed by different devices and operating systems, and to avoid the frustration of most pioneers in the community version. Due to the nature of compatibility issues with different devices and operating systems, we still expect to get reports of some problems when running this version, but due to the iteration of the test release, we hope that they will be greatly reduced. This version also includes more data about the state of the blockchain container in the node interface for pioneers to troubleshoot.

We have invited more than 100 node candidates and will gradually invite node candidates to start running the blockchain to track the testnet. All candidates can upgrade to the latest version v0.3.6. However, due to technical reasons, new functions for opening and viewing the blockchain will be gradually introduced to different candidates. If you don’t see the new feature, please don’t get discouraged, as we are still recruiting more candidates. The goal is to enable all candidate nodes to open the blockchain container and track it as the blockchain testnet develops.

Importance of v0.3.4 and higher
Pi node v0.3.4 will only allow viewing of the Pi testnet, but it is important because this is the first time the Pi node software has run the blockchain on a larger scale, and it started The second phase of the testnet roadmap-the revision phase, includes an iterative process of two activities: scenario testing and consensus algorithm revision. On the basis of this version, the core team can quickly assign network diagrams and configuration simulation data to different nodes to more effectively perform stress tests on various scenarios and states of the network. The data generated from these tests will be input into the revision process of the consensus algorithm. The revision phase may be a fairly long period during which multiple node versions will be released because it not only involves engineering time but also research breakthroughs. As the consensus algorithm is improved through simulated data, the core team will be able to add more capabilities to nodes and super nodes, rather than just viewing the testnet, such as verifying transactions and participating in consensus algorithms, and moving to the third stage-real-time testing The net advances.

2. The next steps to build the node (Q4
of 2020 ) In the 4th quarter of 2020, we will continue to build on the basis of v0.3.6, and strive to implement more test functions of Testnet. First, we want the testnet to allow super nodes to run the blockchain and participate in consensus. This means that we will build the functions of super nodes, such as submitting, writing and verifying transactions on the blockchain. We will also establish a centralized layer in the test network to allow distribution of simulation data, running revision phase experiments and stress test scenarios, as described in the test network roadmap. With the need to run experiments, we need to establish a real-time network health data collection mechanism. For example, in order to determine whether an experiment is successful, we need to know the impact of any particular experiment setting on the health of the network. Once the super node functions are in place, we will select and invite more super nodes to participate in the consensus of the testnet in the fourth quarter
