Google will disable the third-party Chromium browser Chrome sync function

Google recently stated that they found that users who use a third-party Chromium browser can unintentionally access the data retained by the Chrome browser and use Google Chrome synchronization functions. These functions are implemented based on Google’s proprietary APIs, which are only built into Chrome browsing. It is not included in the Chromium open source project.

In order to prevent third-party browsers from abusing these APIs, Google announced that it will restrict access to its private Chrome application program interface (API) starting March 15.

By removing the access rights of other Chromium browsers to Chrome Sync, third-party browsers will not be able to use Google accounts and Chrome Sync API to synchronize user data, bookmarks, history, and browser plug-ins to the browser in.

At the same time, Google also stated that they will not delete any data that has been synchronized from these third-party browsers, but will not synchronize any new data after March 15.

Google did not indicate to the public which browsers they have discovered that Chrome Sync is used, but according to our own research, most browsers based on Chromium on the market currently have their own synchronization engines (for example: Edge, Opera and Brave). Therefore, these browsers will not be affected by this incident, and the affected browsers only found Cent for the time being.
