Oracle Linux 8 Update 3 is released. This is a new build version of the old branch of the Oracle Enterprise Linux distribution, compiled from the source code of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.9.
The Oracle Linux 8 Update 3 release includes:
Graphical installer:
- Improved support for NVDIMM devices
- Improve support for ipv6 static configuration
- For encrypted containers, the installer uses the LUKS2 version by default
- The graphical installer includes "root password" and "user creation settings" in the installation summary screen
Red Hat Compatible Kernel (RHCK)
- lshw command provides additional CPU information
- /dev/random and /dev/urandom are conditionally supported by the kernel encryption API DRBG
- Added extended Berkeley packet filter for Kernel Virtual Machine (KVM)
- libbpf support is now available
- Includes Mellanox ConnectX-6 Dx network adapter and automatic driver loading
- TSX is disabled by default on Intel CPUs that support TSX disabled
Other updates:
- NVMe/TCP provides a technical preview on RHCK and is fully supported on UEK R6
- GCC Toolset version 10 is available as Application Stream
- Pacemaker updated to version 2.0.4
- Virtualization improvements are mainly focused on the KVM hypervisor
