The hacker who stole Bill Gates and Obama's Twitter was caught, so young that you can't think of it!

If people say that in 2020, he won't be shocked anymore.

Because 2020 is too magical...

Sudden " Charity Disturbance "

Do you still remember the "charity storm" that suddenly became popular on Twitter this year?

On July 15, 2020, when I woke up suddenly in the morning, people found that a large number of celebrities and celebrities on Twitter were posting a tweet about "charity".

Many well-known figures including Obama, Bill Geis, Musk, Bezos and so on tweeted at the same time that they "do good deeds". Anyone who transfers money to their Bitcoin wallet address will receive a "double refund".

Then the Twitter style of the big guys is like this:

such as:

"Musk" said that if you put 1,000 dollars in a bitcoin account he released, he will return you 2,000 dollars.

"Obama" said that he is going to help fight the new crown pneumonia. If you put 1,000 dollars in a bitcoin account he released, he will also pay you 2,000 dollars.

Netizens all over the world were stunned.

Official emergency response!

Nearly two hours after the incident occurred, the official did not find the cause, so emergency measures were taken, rarely banning all verified accounts from sending tweets, and deleting these tweets.

Although the official action is not slow, CNN reports show that within a few minutes of these tweets, a bitcoin account that appeared in some tweets showed more than 320 transactions and received $113,000 in bitcoin.

In addition, there are a lot of U.S. dollars that are being credited to the account, which is blocked by the Bitcoin exchange Coinbase.....

After the whole incident, the FBI took over, and it took less than half a month to arrest the suspects.

The young man of the principal criminal is only 17 years old... His name is Graham Ivan Clark (code-named "Kirk") and he lives in Tampa, Florida.

At the same time, there are two small partners who are doing things together, Mason Sheppar, a 19-year-old British citizen living in England, codenamed ("Chaewon").

And Nima Fazeli, 22, who lives in Orlando, Florida, codenamed ("Rolex")

Of course, it was 17-year-old Clark who first took the lead in "making things".

How was it hacked?

After the incident, I have a question?

As a world-renowned Internet company, Twitter must not be too bad in terms of security. How could it be destroyed by a group of hairy kids?

At first Clark obtained access to Twitter's internal working space through some special methods, and then he discovered a tool that could change the account name.

Clark thought that he could sell account names to make money, and found two other associates.

But Clark didn't stop there. Through the private information of Twitter employees on LinkedIn, the Twitter employees successfully believed that he was a colleague of the IT department.

And successfully directed Twitter employees to a phishing page that imitated the internal Twitter VPN, enabling them to successfully break through the 2FA protection of the administrator account and successfully obtain access credentials for the Twitter system.

Everyone knows the next thing. Clark and his accomplices targeted 130 Twitter accounts and posted Bitcoin fraud tweets in 45 of them...

How was it caught?

Clark is an immigrant from Russia. His parents divorced when he was 7 years old. He and his sister, along with his mother, have lived in Tampa since childhood and just graduated from high school this year.

From a young age, the family environment was more complicated, causing Clark to always be a problem teenager.

When he was 10 years old, Clark became obsessed with the well-known game "Minecraft", but in this game world, he took advantage of other players' eagerness to get good equipment to defraud money.

It is too easy for him to get money. He often does some "scams" on the Internet, but the methods at the beginning are relatively low-level, until he encounters a hacker technology forum later.

Before attacking Twitter, he was actually spotted by the police once. In April of this year, Clark was suspected of stealing 164 bitcoins worth 856,000 US dollars!

In the end, the police recovered some (100) bitcoins. In the end, Clark was not arrested because he was a minor.

But Clark didn't restrain himself and continued his cyber fraud and extortion activities. Driving a BMW 3 series car, creating top-level gaming equipment, and living a luxurious life that does not match his age.

Since Clark had already been targeted by law enforcement agencies, and his modus operandi was not clever, a lot of troubles were revealed in the process. Law enforcement officers quickly located him based on some preliminary clues.

Only a week after the incident, FBI officers held a search warrant, and law enforcement officers directly knocked on the door of Clark's apartment on Friday the following week.

At last

Now he faces 30 charges, and if convicted, he could face up to 200 years in prison.

I don't know what Clark thinks now, maybe he will really be lying in prison all his life.

After writing, I have a little feeling that a child from a single parent family can hack the most famous Internet company in the world through self-study.

It can be seen that Clark's self-learning ability and technical acumen are very good. If he was led to the right path at the beginning, it might be another scene.

In addition, I really recommend that you avoid the temptation to make "quick money". On the one hand, the risk of making quick money is huge. It is often that after you make a lot of money, you don't almost spend it.

On the other hand, the most ruthless group of people who have been cut leek on the market are those who want to make quick money. The more they want to make a dollar, the less they can make a lot of money.

Just like what Buffett said: No one wants to get rich slowly...
