2020 Chx's Road to Computer Research and Research Series (6)-Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (make up the offer, and finally give up)

Write in front

The time of writing this blog is 2020.8.21. In the past two days, I participated in the artificial intelligence training camp hosted by our school. As a result, I accidentally received a double-choice email from the Automation Office today, and I was struggling to decide whether to go to the Computing Office or the Automation Office. Finally, I chose the Computing Office.

It is indeed heartache to give up the offer of automation, but who knows whether my choice is right or not! There is a saying that the big guys are all doing the proof, then I will learn from the big guys and try to do this proof well.

Summer Camp of Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (8.3-8.7)

The experience of the summer camp of the Institute of Automation can be described as "a twists and turns", and it can be considered a more fantastic experience.

To be honest, I didn't really feel that the Automation Institute was nb at first. I thought it was a dual-controller. After inquiring about it, I found that the AI of the Automation Institute is really good, full AI.

7.27 Make-up entry camp

Correct! You read that right, I was admitted to the camp! Originally planned to enter the camp with 300+ , because of online reasons, 80+ were added. In the end, the number of participants was 380+ . I am one of these 80 lucky ones.

But, those who can be re-enrolled in the camp are conditional. See the picture below. The 2-year National Award gave me this opportunity.

At that time, the offer of the computing office was already in hand, so I sent an email to the teacher, wanting to see what level I am in the army of insurance research. Unexpectedly, I received the admission notice on the 27th, which was quite unexpected and pleasant. Because there is a computing office, the Automation Institute wants to rush Teacher Daniel to choose a direction that I like.

After entering the camp, I contacted a few teachers in the NLP direction that I would like to go to, and the teachers' answers were more official. The Institute of Automation does not have a mechanism for tutors to recruit people, so it is necessary to pass an interview at the summer camp.

8.3-8.5 Summer camp presentation

There is nothing to say, just endless preaching + wandering. In the past few days, I basically lay in a hammock at home, holding a pad and watching all day. . .

8.6 Interview

The summer camp is divided into 12 groups, each with about 30 people. I was in Group 1, and my name was relatively high, so I had an interview on 8.6 AM. 8.7 Interview for Group 7-12.

Interviewing everyone for about 15 minutes, the teacher sat in a circle and took turns asking me questions. I read some online experience before, and found that the Institute of Automation likes to ask math questions, so I did a good review of the math questions, and it turned out-I basically didn't ask me math questions! ! !

The teachers of the Automation Institute seem to pay special attention to the students' project experience. But my project experience is not so good, and the interview is very thorough. In terms of projects, the teacher mainly asked me about the project of the knowledge graph, and asked if I had been in the teacher's research group. After finding that I was too culinary, he started asking me about the programming competition. . . Even the kind of awkward chat, the teachers are not from computer science classes, and they are also in the cloud. For the first time I felt that 15min was such a long time.

I knew it was cold after the interview. But it’s good to be able to go to the calculation office, which eliminates some inner guilt.

8.21 Supplementary record double selection

When it was about the tenth, the first batch of offers that passed the interview and entered the double selection phase had already been sent out. There is no doubt that I am not shortlisted.

From preparing for the summer camp to now, I am really tired, so I just want to directly calculate the landing, not toss. Beginning on the 17th, I participated in the artificial intelligence training camp hosted by our school. A Baidu teacher gave us a lecture. The lecture was pretty good, and it was suitable for a novice like me.

On the morning of the 21st (today), the teacher was still talking about LSTM and GRU, and as a result, he received a double-choice email from the Automation Institute. It really is. . .

I opened the form to see which teachers were not selected, and found out that my favorite teachers were already selected. I finally found a teacher with brain-like intelligence, but the direction of brain-like intelligence made me hesitate again. With the attitude of trying, I sent an email to teacher zq to ask, and I took this opportunity to learn more about the brain-like direction. If you don't match, I will jump out.

I was a bit entangled, and I sent a group vote to see the choices of most people. The result is as follows.

The teacher called me soon and asked if I would have time in the afternoon, and the research team would have an interview together. It seems that as September is approaching, the teachers are also starting to worry. Around 3 pm, 2 teachers and 1 senior in the research group interviewed me. The teacher asked about some project experience (again...), the senior also asked me why the ICPC hit the iron, the thief was embarrassed, what can I say, I can't say that I am too disheveled. . . But even so, the interview passed, and the teacher asked me to answer whether she was coming or not before 6pm on the 22nd.

I am still more inclined to the computing laboratory. Besides, I have not been able to choose my favorite tutor. After discussing with my parents in the evening, I finally gave up the automation laboratory. It's really rare to have to give up something to make a choice. There is a gain if you have a home. This is the same as the "abandonment" principle in Go.

postscript

To be honest, if you ask me to make up a story, I may not be able to make up the fantasy summer camp experience of the Institute of Automation. Enrollment and double election are all admitted. Can you believe this? This also resulted in me being unable to choose my favorite teacher when it was my turn, and eventually returned to the computing office honestly.

I returned to school on 9.1. I quickly relax for a few days, hoping that the quilt in the dormitory will not grow mushrooms. . .
