TB6612FNG motor drive alternative

Recently, Toshiba’s very commonly used motor driver chip TB6612FNG was discontinued. This is a full-bridge driver chip. After testing, two better alternative chips are ST’s L298 series, L293D series and VNH5019 series full-bridge drivers. The complete substitution here is that the program and the control method are completely compatible.

L298N and L298P L298N and L298P are full-bridge driver chips with low power. The rated power is 12V2A and the peak value can reach 4A. It is mostly used for 12V DC brushed motor drivers, and a small part is used for stepping motors. L298N is a through-hole package, and L298P is a patch package. 2. VNH5019
VNH5019 is a high-power motor drive of ST company with a rated power of 24V30A. It is mostly used for 24V DC brushed motor drive. The full bridge control method is the same as TB6612FNG. 5019 is suitable for high-power motor drives, such as 24V planetary motors. It occupies a small area and can replace large-area components driven by MOS, avoiding too complicated components. For specific circuit diagrams, please refer to my other blogs

L293D and L293DD L293D series is a small power motor full-bridge driver chip of ST company, with a rated power of about 12V0.8A and a peak value of 1.5A, which is a small power motor driver. The chip, the control method is also full bridge control, the same as TB6612NFNG. L293D is a lead-in package, and L293DD is a patch package. Look at the data sheet and compare the power of the L293D lead-in package than the L293DD patch package.

These are several drivers that can replace TB6612FNGIC. I personally recommend L298P. The power is quite satisfactory and the performance is sufficient. If you need more power, you can choose VNH5019, but the price will be higher. The L293D series is not recommended. The power is too low. It is more difficult to bring a DC motor, especially if it is a smart car, it will be overloaded accidentally.
