GitHub Copilot Chat is generally available

Earlier this year, GitHub launched Copilot Chat; a programming-focused chatbot similar to ChatGPT for organizations that subscribe to Copilot for Business. Not long ago, the beta version of Copilot Chat was also launched for Copilot individual users, priced at $10 per month.

Today, GitHub announced that GitHub Copilot Chat is now generally available for Visual Studio Code and Visual Studio, and can also be used for free by verified teachers, students, and maintainers of popular open source projects.

"The GitHub Copilot Chat feature is now available to all individual GitHub Copilot users. Enterprise and organization admins can grant development teams access to Copilot Chat by enabling the Copilot Chat setting for their users. If you are already using Copilot Chat in beta , or your development team has already been provided access, no further action is required."

GitHub Copilot Chat is powered by GPT-4 and is fine-tuned specifically for development scenarios. Developers can prompt Copilot Chat with natural language to get real-time guidance, such as asking Copilot Chat to explain a concept, detect a vulnerability, or write a unit test.
