It is self-evident what PuTTY is, but what is PuTTY CAC? PuTTY CAC adds support for smart cards, certificates, and FIDO keys
based on PuTTY . This means that PuTTY CAC can use smart cards, certificates, or FIDO as the key source for SSH communication to log in. Please find other more detailed information on your own.
There is basically no difference in the usage and settings between PuTTY CAC and PuTTY. The biggest difference is that PuTTY CAC provides a certificate panel for certificate-related settings.
You can choose smart cards, certificates and FIDO according to your actual needs.
And provides corresponding management tools, such as using CAPI tools to generate self-signed certificates, manage and select the certificates you want to use.
Use FIDO tools to manage physical tokens, such as creating new keys, deleting or importing keys, etc.
Special reminder: When performing operations related to FIDO keys, you may need to use the PuTTYImp.exe program. However, the corresponding program is not provided in the relevant release of cnPuTTY CAC. You need to download the PuTTYImp.exe program included in the English version of PuTTY CAC to complete the relevant operations. The detailed process is skipped here. If the PuTTYImp.exe program is missing, related operations will fail and the following prompt will appear.
