Teach you step-by-step instructions on how to install Windows system

Windows installation methods are roughly divided into two types:

The first is to use the installation tool provided by Microsoft (actually it is also a maintenance system, but it can only be used for installation)

The second type of installation under PE (PE is also a maintenance system, but PE focuses on maintenance. Installing the system is only one of its functions, but most of them on the market nowPE are bundled , such as Chinese cabbage, always picky)

Recommended PE:  edgeless  Japanese  FirPE  , Weight PE (old edition not available, new edition not available)

Step 1: Determine the motherboard BIOS and whether to use UEFI or Legacy to boot, because this will affect the hard disk partition table format used.

How to determine what boot is available now

Win+r calls out the running program and enter msinfo32 in the running program window.

Enter system information

BIOS mode is UEFI, which means UEFI boot

If you have not installed the system, or want to know whether your motherboard supports UEFI boot, we recommend two methods.

The first method is to check your motherboard model online to see if it supports UEFI boot.

The second method: Enter the BIOS interface to view BOOT. Those that support UEFI boot will generally use UEFI or EFI. The more obvious one is,

The picture below is the BOOT interface of the virtual machine started using UIEF.

The picture below shows using traditional boot, that is, Legacy startup

Step Two: Boot and Hard Drive

Determine the boot format first, as this will affect the hard disk partition table format.

GUID (GPT) format, uses UEFI boot, supports hard drives above 2T, and only supports 64-bit systems. GPT has no limit on the number of partitions, but Windows only supports a maximum of 128 GPT partitions. The GPT format boot is written under the ESP partition.

The MBR format uses Legacy boot. It does not support hard drives above 2T. It supports 32-bit and 64-bit systems. It only supports up to 4 primary partitions or three primary partitions and one extended partition. There can be multiple logical partitions under the extended partition. The boot entry of the MBR format is to write 0 cylinder, 0 head, and 1 sector.

How to determine the current hard disk partition table format

You can use the tool DiskGenius to view and convert,

Select the hard disk, the picture belowThe red highlighted area is the hard disk partition table format, you can see it is MBR, that is, this format is Does not support UEFI boot

To convert the hard disk partition table format to GUID (format), you can right-click and select, convert the partition table type to GUID format, and save the changes.

Attentive friends will find that MBR has changed to GPT

Step 3: Install Windows

Windows installations provided by Microsoft are roughly divided into two types

The first is to use the ISO image to extract it to the current Windows, and use setup.exe to install it directly, or reinstall or upgrade.

The second is to write the ISO image as a boot item to a USB flash drive (not copy and paste) or CD, and then use the first boot item to start the installation.

No matter which installation method is used, the installation provided by Microsoft will automatically recognize the partition table format and automatically use UEFI or MBR to boot.

But the installation provided by Microsoft

ESP partition is a partition written by UEFI boot (and other boot management programs, drivers, and system maintenance tools), and will be marked outA partition of about 100MB, the MSR partition is a partition on the GUID (GPT) disk used to reserve space for backup, the recovery partition is the WinRE storage recovery environment, if you do not want to divide the MSR partition and recovery partition, you can use PE to install Windows,

MBR will write the boot to the system reserved partition, and will carve out a partition of about 500MB , if you don’t want to partition, you can use PE to install Windows

Install using PE

First determine whether the startup type is UEFI or Legacy, because this will affect the hard disk partition table format you use, and then whether the driver you need is GPT or MBR, and partition it

There are many tools that can be installed under PE. Let me talk about the general principle.

Release the system files with the suffix .WIN or .ESD into the partition where you want to install the system, and then modify the boot. You can use DISM to install it.

Let me give you an example

One is UEFI boot, use DISM to install, the other is Legacy boot, use NTSetup to install

Because these two softwares are usually prepared in PE. If not, you can download one from the official website.

Start Legacy and use NTSetup to install dynamic graphics
