On May 15, under the guidance of the Information Development Bureau of the Central Network Information Office, the "2022 China Open Source Innovation Competition" jointly sponsored by the China Internet Development Foundation, China Cyberspace Research Institute, and China Internet Investment Fund officially released the winners. list. The joint entry project "openEuler RISC-V Release" by Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences and openEuler RISC-V SIG won the first prize.

The theme of this year's competition is "open source innovation, co-construction of the ecology", focusing on the country's major strategic needs in the cultivation of open source talents and the construction of an open source ecology, focusing on the technical fields related to "stuck necks", aiming to help the high-quality development of the open source ecology, Stimulate the vitality of open source innovation, select excellent open source projects, cultivate open source practice talents, and help open source ecological construction.

The openEuler RISC-V release is based on the source code warehouse of the openEuler community. It has carried out a large number of software and hardware adaptations, upgrades, and optimizations for the RISC-V architecture, and has realized simultaneous releases with the openEuler Arm64 and X86 versions.

The openEuler RISC-V release aims to improve openEuler's software ecosystem based on the RISC-V architecture, so that it has enough software packages to meet the application requirements for software in various industries and scenarios, and to ensure the availability, stability and performance of the software requirements; at the same time guarantee the security requirements of the system. The Institute of Software of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the RISC-V SIG continue to expand and improve the support of the openEuler system for RISC-V development boards, making the openEuler system compatible with various hardware operating environments. Currently, the openEuler RISC-V release version supports 7 development boards by default, namely:

  1. Nezha/D1
  2. LicheeRV
  3. SiFive Unmatched
  4. VisionFive 1
  5. VisionFive 2
  6. SG2042(EVB)
  7. LicheePi 4A

Initially completed the adaptation of multiple desktop environments such as XFCE, DDE, UKUI, GNOME, Kiran, and Cinnamon; completed the adaptation of containers and their tools; took the lead in integrating Spidermonkey JIT support from the Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and many other RISC-V Architecture targeted optimization.

In the future, the Institute of Software of the Chinese Academy of Sciences will continue to work hard to build the openEuler RISC-V release version into a stable, efficient, and advanced RISC-V operating system, provide more powerful infrastructure support for the iterative upgrade of openEuler, improve user operating experience, and promote RISC-V is moving towards richer application scenarios.
