因为「云计算」是谷歌最早于 2006 年提出的概念，却因为自身发展策略等原因，在一段时间都不愿披露自己的业绩，而阿里云等后来者也颇有赶超之势。

有人分析到，谷歌云的没落和其内部沉迷技术的风气有关，谷歌工程师文化所造成的营销与生态缺失的短板，在云计算的版图扩张中被不断的放大。
曾有谷歌员工说过，「谷歌兜售的是自己的技术，销售的是它认为客户需要的东西，而不是客户认为他们自己需要的东西。」
而想要打破这一切，也唯有通过不断地改变。
去年，谷歌云重金从甲骨文挖来了 Thomas Kurian 接任 CEO， 也随之加大了云业务的筹码，尝试改进总体规划，为其进行更多的销售投资。

其中 Thomas Kurian 着重开启了一些策略，诸如增加部门员工人数，挖来了一些重量级高管，并着手调整云计算产品的销售方式等等。
Thomas Kurian 还曾表示，将云计算业务聚焦的领域，针对性地聚焦到了五个方面：零售、医疗保健、金融服务、媒体和娱乐，以及制造业。
这样看来，一切的举措，都似乎是在朝着 2023 年的目标迈进，但谷歌云究竟能不能如愿，可能谁都没有答案。
