What is static routing?

Configured by the administrator manually routing information. A static route is fixed and will not change, even if network conditions have changed or re-configuration.

Static routing advantages : ① high low network security (without the need to exchange routing table) ② bandwidth ③ ④ easy to configure the network topology clear

Static routing disadvantages : ① long time-consuming configuration and maintenance (for large networks) ② can not dynamically reflect the network topology

When using static routing?

Simple Network (less equipment), small networks with dynamic routing protocols hybrid network (when a network can only be reached by a path), long-term fixed network

What is dynamic routing?

Refers to a router can build its routing table automatically depending on the particular routing information exchange between routers, and can be automatically adjusted according to changes in a timely manner to links and nodes. When the link between the node or network fails, or the presence of other available routes, dynamic routing can choose the best available route itself and continues to forward packets.

In simple terms: Routers use routing protocols to obtain routes from other routers there, when the network topology changes, the router will automatically update routing information.
