Cisco DHCP acquisition process

How to host the DHCP acquisition process?

  Address request:

DHCP client issues a request for information, which will be sent to all hosts, non-DHCP server discards information within the network.

  Address provided:

After the DHCP server receives the message, it will pick an unused address is returned to the client from the address pool.

  Address selection:

If there are multiple network DHCP server, the client will receive more than one address, then the client must select an address (to the principle of first come, first), and broadcast a message to inform the selected item.

  Address Confirmation:

After the server receives the client broadcast information, it will confirm whether the address provided for itself, if not, no response, or continue to provide additional information.

Experimental results:

If you want to keep the address 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.99, how do from the 100 allocated addresses?

Excluded-address reserved address / address exclusion

Eg:

Router>enable
Router#configure terminal
Router(config)#ip dhcp excluded-address 192.168.1.2 192.168.1.9
