E-learning authoring tool package iSpring Suite, how to make scientific information easier to read (case study)

We should all understand that there is always a gap between scientists and the public, there are a lot of scientific literature, but that does not mean that everyone can easily get. For an ordinary public, who are generally unable to understand literature.

University of Manchester, the primary electronic learning support assistant Tahiya Alam scientific information dissemination undertaken extensive research. In this article, she shares her experience at iSpring help to an easy to use and engaging way to present scientific information.

Challenge: Let ××× information about Alzheimer's disease

It is widely believed that scientific information should be open to the public. Researchers can get a lot of knowledge and evidence, these things used to support informed decision-making at local, national and international levels. The public should be able to in a manner they can understand, they get the information needed to make informed decisions in policy-making.

Last year to study neuroscience at the University of Manchester, my task is to spread science project. According to my research on the relationship between diabetes and Alzheimer's disease, I was asked to do three things in this project. Including two scientific articles and an effective science communication, creativity fragment.

I would like to provide information about Alzheimer's disease to anyone, not over-simplify or change the meaning of the findings.

My idea is to be a guide for those who have friends or family on their recent diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease of interest. This guide provides information about Alzheimer's disease symptoms, pathology and diagnosis. I am also aware that studies show that if the people around know more about this problem, the quality of life of Alzheimer's patients will be increased. In my research on public participation, I found more interactive approach is the most appropriate way to provide information.

Studies have shown that the information displayed in non-traditional formats can increase retention and attention.

I chose to create interactive guide so that users can better control their learning and how they access information. From the perspective of the teaching point of view, this method of transmitting information but also to deepen understanding, allow more linkages through the use of multimedia and information.

Use iSpring build interactive Alzheimer's Guide

I was inspired by some of the tools already on the NHS or Alzheimer's Society website. I want these tools and more user-friendly and can be associated. So, I collected research on Alzheimer's disease, and then create a recognition of symptoms from pathology to understand, then to be diagnosed scene.

My technique is to create demand for a guide that contains animation and flip-flops, and allows users to test me and to obtain quantitative information about their user experience. The recommendation of the e-learning team, I realized that my best meet the needs of iSpring Suite

I designed a slide in PowerPoint, and creates a link in the guide to use hyperlinks. Since iSpring Suite is a plug-in for PowerPoint, I am very familiar with this program, so it is very simple. I was able to build very interesting things without the need for coding, and use tools and templates to easily make it interactive, fun and colorful features.

I was able to use scenario-based learning, through the storyline. Theoretical support situated learning theory believe that the scenario method is effective, because they make use of context-based learning. When you are again in a similar environment, based on the experience of learning in the past, this knowledge will be re-examined.

Since the context-based learning, the method is effective in a scene. When you are in a similar environment again, we will revisit the knowledge.

Information page

Since this is part of a research project I am working on, I need to collect, and practical information on such resources intelligibility of effectiveness. iSpring test tool allows me to easily create quizzes to assess knowledge of the topic before and resources, in order to assess their effectiveness, as well as some of the survey questions related to resource user experience. I was able to choose from a variety of question types, including multiple choice, fill-in and hot topic, in order to measure understanding in various ways.

Quiz example, fill in the blank

It is easy to collect data. The user enters a unique identifier at the start of each test, and the score is automatically sent to my email address. This allows me to process the data and use statistical tests analyzed.

I'm using a Likert scale to understand the views of users of resources.

Examples Likert scale

Outcome: interactive content to make learning more effective and more attractive

I was able to gather about their favorite use of such resources survey answers. Some examples include:

  • "Following the use of stories and scroll the image, helping to clarify how it is to be associated with the occurrence of way." Provides a realistic idea, which contributes to a clearer understanding. Highlighted words helped me pick out the more important fact.

  • "Read about Susan's particularly useful, these examples make the content easier to understand. Visual effects also let you more likely to remember certain aspects of the information given, for example, Susan keys are genetic and blood."

  • "Interactive aspects. For example, a doctor and a kitchen scene scene, hovering over different articles."

And so on.

Overall, the resources effectively so that people involved in the information in the past. iSpring highly appreciated by users in a way to allow interaction, I found iSpring Suite make my content is very easy to create.

ISpring Suite I continue to use in my project. I like this tool because I can use the software to complete a lot of things, such as:

  • Create interactive schedule

  • Use the audio / video narrative slideshow

  • Embedding iFrames - combination of media from different locations

  • Embedded YouTube video

  • Create graphics with labels

In addition, with iSpring, I can access my content on a variety of platforms, and share anywhere in the world, in order to achieve effective dissemination of scientific information.

So, ah, using iSpring Suite is very convenient, it is for PowerPo complete e-learning authoring tool package int. Perfect integration with PowerPoint, quickly and easily develop e-learning, a tool that allows you to perform a variety of tasks.
