Better support for Nouveau, NVIDIA released the hardware interface documentation

NVIDIA has long been criticized for the support open source driver unfriendly, but now based on MIT issued a " NVIDIA chip / hardware interface documentation " to help developers develop NVIDIA Linux open source Nouveau driver's.

In a message sent to reporters in phoronix in, NVIDIA announced:

NVIDIA has released the public portion of GPU hardware interface free (MIT license) document, it's a work in progress; not all interfaces have been released.

This is seen as open source developers want to support their NVIDIA GPU, while the Nouveau project is its best-known open source driver project.

Currently open document mainly covers Maxwell, relevant content Pascal, Volta and generations of NVIDIA Kepler graphics card, the latest Turing framework document has not been made public. Specific to the content, including BIOS table, the device control block, device initialization, Fa lcon about its security engine, memory clock / adjustment, the power head shader program status.

Although not exhaustive document, but it is by far the NVIDIA released the most comprehensive open-source hardware interface documentation. View the details of the document:
