This perl script is part of the Samba components.

findsmb is a perl script to print out information about the subnet host response SMB name query request. In fact, it is to obtain this information by using the nmblookup and smbclient.

 

 

Options


  If you do not use this option subnet broadcast address, then, findsmb will host its own subnet probe itself where the run command.
  This value will be passed to the nmblookup as part of its -B option.

 

Examples

findsmb output can list the following information in response to all the hosts of any initial nmblookup name query: IP address, NetBIOS name, workgroup name, operating system, and SMB server version.

In the list, if a host where the local master browser for its workgroup, it will be a "+" mark on the front of the workgroup name is followed by the host. If a host location for the primary domain Browser Working Group, then will be marked with "*" sign in front of the workgroup name of the host heel. Those running Windows, Windows 95 or Windows 98 will not display any of the host operating system or server version.

The command must be run on a system without nmbd running. Otherwise, you will only get the IP address and DNS name of the host. To get the correct response to the host Windows 95 and Windows 98, you must run the command as root.
