HAProxy 2.0 release brings many new features

HAProxy 2.0 was released. HAProxy provide high availability, load balancing, and proxy TCP and HTTP-based applications, support for virtual hosts, it's free, fast and reliable a solution.

This version brings a number of important features for cloud native container and environment, and to further enhance the seamless integration of modern architecture support. Key new features include:

  • 7 Network Layer Retry: can retry the failed server from another Layer 7 HTTP request.
  • Now supports the exposure metric to Prometheus.
  • Multi-language Scalability: HAProxy 1.7 introduces stream processing offload engine (SPOE, Stream Processing Offload Engine) and stream processing offload protocol (SPOP, Stream Processing Offload Protocol), the goal is to use any programming language to create necessary on HAProxy building extension. The initial examples are C-based, now supports C, .NET Core, Lua and Python.
  • Traffic shadowing, you can request image from one environment to another environment, which can be sent to a certain percentage of the production flow test or staging environment, to review the situation prior to full deployment release. The new Traffic Shadowing daemon is written to the stream processing to be offloaded agent (SPOA, Stream Processing Offload Agent), and use of HAProxy SPOE, allows the use of any programming language extensions HAProxy.
  • GRPC fully supported, it allows a bidirectional data flow, detecting and recording GRPC GRPC message traffic.

In addition, the introduction of powerful HAProxy Kubernetes Ingress control and data plane functions HAProxy API, which provides a modern REST API for configuring and managing the HAProxy.

Announcement also revealed, HAProxy 2.1 will be based on HAProxy 1.9 and 2.0 above, the planned features include:

  • UDP support
  • OpenTracing
  • Dynamic SSL certificate update
