Since 1989, the book was first published, in 1994, 1999, 2003, 2008 and 2013, respectively, out of the revision. In 2006 the book was reviewed by the Ministry of Education, are included in higher education "eleven five" national planning materials; published in 2008 won the 5th edition of the Ministry of Education in 2009 the title of quality teaching materials. 2013 published the sixth edition is the "second five" general higher education undergraduate national planning materials.
Currently 2017 release of Version 7 has conducted a number of amendments on the basis of the 6th edition. The book is divided into nine chapters, a more comprehensive and systematic introduction to the development of computer network architecture and principles, physical layer, data link layer (including local area network), the network layer, transport layer, application layer, network security, audio on the Internet / video services, and wireless and mobile networks and so on. Each chapter is accompanied by exercises (Appendix A gives some answers to the exercises and tips).
Characteristic of this book is the concept of accurate, discuss rigorous, innovative, illustrations, highlighting the basic principles and explains the basic concepts, while trying to reflect some of the latest developments in computer networks.

Xie Xiren, Institute of Command Automation PLA University of Science, Professor. The main academic achievements are: 1986 to complete the General Staff Communication Department office local area network system project; 1987 in the "Journal of Electronics" published "Progress packet voice communication"; for the first time introduces packet data communications; completed in 1991 the National Zirankexue Fund Project "group exchanging voice data communication system "item. Completed in 1999, the first military satellite communications system network management center and research task "Golden Bridge Network Management Technology" projects. The above-mentioned research projects were given state, the army and ministerial awards. Author: "Computer Network" 1st to 7th edition ( "Eleventh Five-Year national planning materials"), has won two national outstanding teaching award, becoming the university's most readers of the national computer network materials.
