LDAP personal understanding

In the new company office, all the back-end system or a file system are a common LDAP account.

Exposure to this new term, it is checked, my personal understanding:

 

LDAP is a protocol, simply put, can be understood as an LDAP database system to store your account passwords. LDAP is a mature, there are many practical systems.

Some systems if you use jenkins jira ... and so on, then the solutions to these systems already have a mature combination with LDAP.

By configuring using LDAP, let jenkins, jira these and other systems to share a set of account passwords, and easy maintenance.
