Note: This article only demonstrates how to pass 0xa0000400 so that Windows Easy Upgrade can continue to download and install.
Successful upgrade cannot be 100% guaranteed, the streamlined version of win10 system may prompt that the installation failed after the final installation step.
The version of Windows 10 I was using before was the enterprise version LTSC 1809. I wanted to upgrade to the 22H2 version without reinstalling the system and all software. I heard that Microsoft’s official “Windows Easy Upgrade” software can be upgraded without loss. After downloading this software and running it, it got stuck. In the first step:
Software prompt: "To upgrade Windows Server or Enterprise Edition, please contact your system administrator."
A solution is provided online: run regeditand modify the registry.
Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion.
Two modifications:
Modification 1: "EditionID" changed toProfessional
Modification 2: "Product Name" changed toWindows 10 Pro
Then run Windows Easy Upgrade again, the error mentioned above no longer displays, but then the total progress of "Download" is stuck at 0%, and then an error is reported 0xa0000400:
It seems that the first step of modifying the registry does not work.

I tried to change the system to the Business-VOL retail version of Windows 10 Professional, clicked "Start Conversion", and then a prompt was displayed that the conversion was successful.
There is no need to restart the system, and then run Windows Easy Upgrade, and then you can continue downloading. The following is a screenshot of the upgrade process:
If there are no abnormalities, after the system restarts several times, enter the desktop and run winver, you can see that the version number of Windows 10 has been successfully upgraded to 22H2.
