The EF Adult English Proficiency Test levels are classified as follows:

1. 1-3 entry level

This level can communicate to a limited extent after repetition and explanation, and can easily talk about familiar topics. At this stage, students have a limited reserve of expressive vocabulary, and they need to think hard and recall frequently when communicating.

2. Elementary level 4-6

Students at this level can answer some simple questions, but they are unable to have long conversations in English alone. They can use some words and phrases to talk about themselves; when traveling abroad, they can complete basic tasks such as booking tickets, consulting, and shopping.

3. Intermediate level 7-9

Students at this level have mastered most life-related English communication topics and can simply describe personal experiences, opinions and explain relevant reasons. Can smoothly express the story content, plot and own feelings. Problems can be explained and dealt with in familiar life situations, but there are still some obstacles in the communication process.

4. 10-12 Intermediate and Advanced

Students at this level can interact socially with native English speakers and participate in discussions. Can give detailed and clear introductions within a familiar scope, be able to evaluate different viewpoints as to which is superior and which is inferior, can express themselves in debates and presentations in an organized and coherent manner, and can discover their own mistakes and correct them in a timely manner.

5. 13-15 Senior

Students at this level can express themselves fluently in most social and professional situations, can expand and extend on common and complex topics, and draw reasonable conclusions through accurate and detailed descriptions and discussions. Long-term travel or settlement abroad can satisfy the language requirements.

6. Mastery Level 16

Students at this level can respond to any situation with ease and communicate accurately, appropriately and easily.
