Slow network? Change the DNS and make the Internet speed so fast!

Have you ever tried it? The computer obviously has Internet access.

The webpage has been spinning in circles for a long time.

Then you are most likely experiencing network congestion !

At this time, you need to manually modify the computer's DNS.

Before modifying, let’s first understand with Mengmeng what DNS is:

DNS is the abbreviation of Domain Name System (Domain Name System), and the Chinese name is domain name resolution server. Generally speaking, computers open websites through IP addresses, but if we have to remember so many IP addresses when surfing the Internet, it is obviously very difficult, so there is DNS. Only by parsing the URL (domain name) into the corresponding IP address through DNS can the website be opened normally.

For example, you need to remember the official website IP of Quxuejourney: 58.220.52.168

Can’t remember it!

But if you are asked to remember the URL (domain name): www.quxuetrip.cn

Obviously I remembered it immediately.

DNS tells the computer the IP of the domain name being accessed, so that the computer can normally access the server with the specified IP.

Without further ado, let’s get to the point!

Directory navigation

  • Query the DNS of the current computer

  • Get the DNS provided by the operator

  • Manually modify DNS

  • How to choose a faster DNS line

  • Free public domain name DNS list

0 1 Query the DNS of the current computer

Windows users can press Win+R , enter CMD , enter ipconfig /all , and press Enter

⚠️Note : There is a space between ipconfig and /all

You can see that the DNS server displays 192.168.192.206 and 192.168.33.1. Generally speaking, if the specified DNS has not been manually set, it will point to the operator's DNS.

Mac users go to Settings and click on the details of the connected Wifi

Click DNS again to query

As you can see, the DNS is set manually.

0 2 Obtain the DNS provided by the operator

Generally speaking, the DNS provided by the operator is relatively stable in the region.

Guangzhou Telecom’s DNS are 202.96.134.33 and 202.96.128.86

Basically, you don’t need to set this yourself, because after the router or optical modem dials up, the DNS automatically issued is the DNS provided by the operator in the region.

If you are not sure what the DNS is, you can call local broadband customer service.

0 3 Manually modify DNS

Windows users can enter the network adapter page to modify

Right-click the corresponding adapter and select Properties

Select Internet Protocol version 4 and fill in the specified DNS

After modification, you need to refresh it manually. Enter ipconfig /flushdns in the run box and press Enter.

⚠️Note : There is a space between ipconfig and /flushdns

  MacOS users set this up

⚠️Note : Modifying DNS on a computer will only take effect on that computer.

If you want it to take effect for all devices connected to Wifi, you need to set it on the router management page:

04 How to choose a faster DNS line

To test which line is faster, you must use the Ping command. Choose whichever line has the lowest latency.

Windows users press Win+R , enter CMD and press Enter

Enter Ping+space+DNS address in the run box .

For example: Ping 202.96.128.86

Ping another Alibaba Cloud public DNS: 223.5.5.5

Generally speaking, the smaller the time value in the Ping command, the better. However, if the time value is suddenly large and sometimes small, it proves that the network fluctuates greatly and the DNS pointed to by the line is not stable. The choice of which DNS to use is up to you.

MacOS users do this in the terminal.
