First experience with Sangfor’s cloud desktop

Yesterday morning, Sangfor engineers came here to install the server. I wanted to take a look at the specific installation, but I had other things to do in the morning, so I didn't do it. In the afternoon, he told me about the specific usage, and I experienced Sangfor's cloud desktop.

Overall, I feel that it is more convenient for administrators to maintain and for customers to use.

But it may be that the server configuration is average and the experience is far from smooth. Because I updated all 300 computers in the first half of the year, that is, adding memory and solid-state drives. The operating system is the China Netcom version of Windows 10, so the use of the computers is relatively smooth. Compared with this Sangfor cloud desktop, it is still a mechanical hard drive. The difference in usage is quite obvious.

No matter how large the memory is, you need to use a hard disk to write cache, and hard disk performance is an important indicator. I told Sangfor’s engineers that we will add solid-state drives and memory to the server next week, and if conditions permit, we will also add more CPUs. (CPU should also be virtualized, so it should also be increased. Anyway, it is to make the user experience better, so that it is convincing)

I didn’t understand the specific theoretical details, so I practiced it while asking. The following process is to add a client that needs to use the Windows 7-64-bit cloud desktop.

  1. Administrator side

The administrator deploys through VMP (Virtualization Management Platform) and VDC (Virtual Desktop Controller) to create the (cloud) desktop that the client needs to use.

  ⑴Add a new virtual machine

⑵ Create a new cloud desktop

   ⑶Configuration parameters

   ⑷Mount installation files

To mount the installation file, you need to upload the installation file to a specific storage location first, and then select it.

  ⑸ Actual installation

Turn on the computer, then enter the console and enter the actual installation interface to operate.

I ran into trouble at this step. The engineer said that the installation file only supports ISO files, but I don't have an ISO file for Windows 7-64 here. I found a GHO file, but it couldn't run.

I am used to GHO installation, so I can only make a PE first and run the PE first to enter. ( This step requires adjusting the system startup sequence in the management interface )

After entering PE, I decompressed GHO on my local machine, compressed it into an ISO file again, mounted it on DVD, then copied it to the installation disk of the cloud desktop, and then installed it.

The actual installation process is the same as a normal Windows installation.

⑹ After the installation is completed, enter the VDC to download the VDInstallAgent of Windows, mount the installation, and restart once after completion.

, ⑺ Shut down, click a few times on the installed cloud desktop, and select "Other Operations" - "Convert to Template" in the menu bar.

At this point, the operation on VMP is completed.

When writing this article, an error occurred in VDC and I could not enter the management interface. I could only write down the operation based on my impression.

The operation of VDC is relatively simple, including "account management", "resource management" and "role management". It means assigning a user and then having the resources and permissions to operate the virtual cloud desktop.

  2. Client operation

There are two methods: soft terminal and hard terminal.

The soft terminal is the login URL (you need to install the components of the terminal for the first time). After entering, the experience is the same as that of actually operating a personal computer, and you can use the resources of the local machine.

The hard terminal uses a small computer (different configurations and prices), configures the network IP address and enters, and subsequent operations are consistent with those on an actual personal computer.

  3. Questions

After a simple trial, I feel that it is okay, and it is quite convenient for administrators to operate.

  ⑴Network address problem

If you try out the soft terminal, you need to configure an address after entering. In this way, one computer needs two IP addresses. This is an obvious waste. When I used VM15, I could use the local IP address, but the engineer said it was not possible. , This is very confusing. If this is really the case, configuring the network address is not simple, and it involves re-adjustment of the IP.

⑵ When making a virtual machine, why can't I use the local USB and can only mount the ISO file through DVD repeatedly? It's really inconvenient. This shouldn't be a difficult problem to solve, but the engineer said it just can't be done.

⑶When operating the storage of the server, the location cannot be divided and used freely, which is very inconvenient to operate.
