Introduction to CentOS
CentOS (Community Enterprise Operating System) is a Linux-based open source operating system that is a rebuilt version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). CentOS aims to be a stable, predictable and easy-to-manage Linux distribution for server and workstation deployments.
Advantages of CentOS include:
-
Completely Free: CentOS is free software with no license or usage fees.
-
Highly stable: Due to its focus on the enterprise market, CentOS pays more attention to stability and reliability to ensure that its servers can run for a long time without problems.
-
Good compatibility: CentOS is based on Red Hat Enterprise Edition (RHEL), so there is high compatibility between them. CentOS can install the same software packages as RHEL through package managers such as yum.
-
Community Support: CentOS is maintained by a large and active community, providing extensive support documentation and solutions.
-
Security updates: CentOS frequently has security updates and patches to ensure server security and protect user data.
CentOS is suitable for enterprises and individual users who need to build a stable, secure and efficient server environment. It is widely used in various scenarios such as Web servers, database servers, mail servers, DNS servers, and file servers.
