General BIOS settings

The following settings may vary depending on different motherboards. Some have different names, and some have no corresponding options. If they are, set them, and if not, skip them (use a search engine if you encounter problems).

  • Turn off the following options
    • Fast Boot
    • VT-d (can also be enabled, provided that OpenCore is used to boot and Kernel → DisableIoMapper is enabled)
    • CSM (There may not be a separate option on some motherboards, in this case select UEFI mode)
    • Intel SGX (notebook)
    • Intel Platform Trust (Laptop)
    • CFG Lock (MSR 0xE2 write protection)
      • If there is no such option in BIOS, OpenCore users please set AppleCpuPmCfgLock and Apple XcpmCfgLock to Yes. ;
      • This item is not relevant for AMD CPU users
    • Serial Port (serial port, some motherboards are also called COM Port, during the macOS installation process, there is a high probability that this item is not closed)
    • Parallel Port (parallel port, if this item is not closed, the possible symptoms are the same as the serial port)
    • Re-Size BAR Support (AMD platform is called Smart Access Memory/SAM), if you have an RX6000 series graphics card, this item can be turned on
  • Turn on the following options:
    • VT-x (used to support Intel virtualization, or not enabled; AMD users do not have this option)
    • Above 4G decoding (If AMD users do not have this option, add npci=0x2000 to the boot parameters. Both cannot be enabled at the same time)
    • Hyper-Threading (Intel Hyper-Threading Technology)
    • Execute Disable Bit(Intel)
    • EHCI/XHCI Hand-off (this item may be the same option as the previous one on some motherboards)
    • Boot-OS type: Other (If your motherboard uses Other, it will cause CSM linkage to be turned on. Try selecting Windows 8.1/Windows 10 UEFI Mode, or update the motherboard BIOS version)
    • XMP (memory automatically overclocked, if available)
    • If you use an Intel graphics card (different motherboards may have different names, don’t worry if you don’t have a graphics card):
      • iGPU/IGFX -> Enable/Auto
        • Open this item, save and exit BIOS, restart and enter BIOS to display the following options
      • Primary Display PEG/PCIE: Auto (only using the nuclear display is PEG, otherwise it is PCIE, and Auto refers to self-adaptation)
      • DVMT Total Memory Size:MAX
      • DVMT Pre-Allocated -> 32M/64M/96M/128M (depending on the Framebuffer to be used, the high-resolution screen should not be lower than 32M, as detailed in the tutorial for driving Intel Core Display)
