Introduction | According to recent news, according to foreign technology media phoronix, the wireless USB and UWB legacy code will be completely cleaned up in the upcoming Linux 6.6 kernel version. |
The report states that due to the lack of maintainers and the popularity of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, the Linux kernel deprecated wireless USB and ultra-wideband (UWB) code as early as 2019, and the wireless USB code has not been updated for 10 consecutive years.
In the Linux 5.7 kernel update released in 2020, a large amount of WUSB and UWB code has been deleted, and after 3 years, these legacy codes will be completely cleaned up.
According to the report, more than 20,000 lines of WUSB/UWB-related code will be removed from the Linux 6.6 kernel, and an additional 500 lines of code will be added.
Wireless USB is a short-range wireless USB technology capable of 480 Mbit/s within 3 meters and 110 Mbit/s within 10 meters.
It's just that wireless USB is now outdated, and consumers are more willing to use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
