1 author information

Author Information - IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence | IEEE Computer Society Digital Library

1.1 Conference journal extension

  • When a TPAMI submission is based on a previous conference paper, the IEEE requires that the journal paper be a "substantial revision" of the previous publication (30% is generally considered "substantial").
    • Improvements include
      • additional technical details
      • Clearer explanation of contributions
      • More experimentation or newer state of the art technology if appropriate
    • Authors are also encouraged to make the journal version a greater improvement than the conference paper
      • (e.g., use the opportunity to integrate their previous work or undertake additional substantive work to answer the questions posed by their conference paper)

1.2 Accepted manuscript types and lengths

  • All page limits include references and author bios
  • For regular papers, pages in the final version of accepted manuscripts that exceed these limits will be subject to a Mandatory Oversized Page Charge (MOPC)
  • All supplementary material must be submitted as separate files and must not be included in the same PDF file as the main manuscript.
    • Supplementary files have no page limit
  • Regular paper – 12 pages, two columns
    • Submitted manuscripts can be up to 18 pages in length, subject to MOPC limitations.
    • The page limit for all regular papers includes references and author bios.
  • Short Essay – 8 pages, two columns
  • Review Paper – 2½ pages, two columns
  • Survey Paper – 20 pages, two columns
