1.1 Conference journal extension
- When a TPAMI submission is based on a previous conference paper, the IEEE requires that the journal paper be a "substantial revision" of the previous publication (30% is generally considered "substantial").
- Improvements include
- additional technical details
- Clearer explanation of contributions
- More experimentation or newer state of the art technology if appropriate
- Authors are also encouraged to make the journal version a greater improvement than the conference paper
- (e.g., use the opportunity to integrate their previous work or undertake additional substantive work to answer the questions posed by their conference paper)

- All page limits include references and author bios
- For regular papers, pages in the final version of accepted manuscripts that exceed these limits will be subject to a Mandatory Oversized Page Charge (MOPC)
