SolidWorks Shell Extension Server has stopped working

sldShellExtServer.exe (SolidWorks Shell Extension Server process) is a process that runs independently of SolidWorks. It communicates with the "sldwinshellextu dll" of SolidWorks and generates thumbnails of SolidWorks files in Windows Explorer.

Sometimes when starting SolidWork, the prompt "SolidWorks Shell Extension Server has stopped working" will appear, as shown in the figure:

There are three specific solutions, as follows:

method one:

1. Right-click the SolidWorks startup icon and click "Properties".

2. Click "Compatibility" in the pop-up dialog box, then check "Run this program as an administrator" in the "Settings" column, click "Apply - Finish" after completing the settings, and then restart SolidWorks to try.

Method Two:

1. Find the sldShellExtServer.exe file (file path: C:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS), find and right-click "sldShellExtServer.exe", and click "Properties" in the pop-up dialog box.

2. Click "Digital Signature" in the pop-up dialog box, select "Dassault S..." in the signature list, click "Details", then click "View Certificate" in the pop-up dialog box, and then click "View Certificate" in the pop-up dialog box. Click "Install Certificate" in the dialog box. After the installation is complete, click "OK-OK-Apply-OK", and then restart SolidWorks to try.

Method three:

The appearance of the "SolidWorks Shell Extension Server has stopped working" pop-up window may be related to other software besides SolidWorks. For example, CAXA software. If you have CAXA software on your computer, this problem may also be caused by converting dwg files. You can find a dwg file and right-click the dwg file. Select CAXA software in the open method, so "SolidWorks Shell Extension" Server has stopped working" popup will no longer appear.
