Q&A

What contributions have you made to the DolphinScheduler community? Can you describe the specific plan?

  • Participated in the reconstruction of the DolphinScheduler resource center, and did some optimization and bug fixes for the new version of the resource center, as well as related code cleanup and the provision of upgrade scripts.
  • Implemented the task submission method of Spark on K8S.
  • Optimize k8s task types, support user-defined node selector, label, image pull strategy, etc.; realize real-time collection of k8s task logs.

When you first got involved with DolphinScheduler, is there any interesting story behind it?

It’s not too early to participate. Last year, OSPP selected the topic of DolphinScheduler. The topic was "Using AOP to Efficiently Collect Yarn ApplicationIds". This is not a high-priority topic for the community, and there are some other solutions, but It was through this experience that I became connected with the community and felt that there was something I could do, so I became active in the community until now.

How long have you been involved with open source? What do you understand by open source? What attracts you to open source?

DolphinScheduler is the first open source community that I participated in code contribution, so it is less than a year old. Regarding open source, everyone may have different reasons for participating in open source, but as a code contributor, the same thing is that they all need to invest a lot of energy after schoolwork. The amount of investment depends on personal circumstances.

The most attractive thing about open source to me is that it is an open community. People are in different companies doing different jobs, and often have different concerns and different ways of thinking about the same problem. Therefore, even if you participate in ordinary There will be a lot to gain from the discussion.

What attracts you to being active and contributing to DolphinScheduler for so long?

1) First of all, as a student, my time will be more flexible.

2) Secondly, you can learn a lot from the community in different dimensions, whether it is technology, how to discuss and communicate more efficiently, or how to write a good issue description, PR description, or email. There are really many seniors in the DolphinScheduler community who are worth learning from. I am not good enough in these aspects. I hope to continue to improve myself through future participation.

3) Finally, there is a sense of accomplishment. Compared with code contribution, I also spent a lot of time reviewing PRs for the community. Carefully looking at each line of code in the PR is a time-consuming thing, but in the process, There will also be some technical gains, and I will gradually become more familiar with the various modules of DS. I will be very happy especially when the review opinions given are recognized.

What do you hope to gain from the DolphinScheduler community?

Some of the gains have been mentioned one after another before. Generally speaking, the technical level and communication skills have been further improved.

In what aspects of Apache DolphinScheduler do you hope to participate in the future?

I would rather participate in two aspects of work. The first is to improve the scheduling capabilities of DolphinScheduler. The current scheduling strategy is relatively simple. As a workflow orchestration scheduling system, if you want to stand out, there is still a lot of room for improvement in this area. The second is some cloud native-related work. Brother Chu Feng has made some suggestions in the community and hopes to help advance them together in the future.

What aspects do you hope the DolphinScheduler community will strengthen in the future?

Personally, I feel that what needs to be strengthened is how to attract more contributors. Maybe we can list some issues to be claimed more clearly. This should not only cover the easy-to-get Good First Issues, but also preferably include some that are more interesting or challenging. Topics, this may further stimulate contributors’ interest in our community. Furthermore, from a student’s perspective, I think the community can call on more contributors on campus, and there are many people with potential and time and energy.

What is your understanding of the role of a community committer? What should a committer do/what role should it play in the community?

After becoming a committer, you have greater authority in the community, such as adding labels and merging codes. This means that you need to take on more responsibilities, give review opinions more rigorously, and sometimes give more positive feedback to ordinary contributors. feedback and recognition.

Become a DolphinScheduler Community Committer and have something you want to say to the community.

Thank you to the community for providing a platform to express yourself and improve yourself. I hope the community can be built better and better!
