Middle Eastern countries accelerate quantum communications deployment to protect against current and future cyber threats

On August 2 local time, Arqit Quantum Inc. (Nasdaq: ARQQ, ARQQW), a leading company in the field of quantum security encryption (hereinafter referred to as Arqit), and Advanced International Electronic Equipment Company WLL, a leading provider of advanced communication solutions and support services in the Middle East (AIEE), AIEE announced the purchase of a license for QuantumCloud™, Arqit's symmetric key agreement platform.

Under the agreement, AIEE will utilize Arqit's symmetric key agreement platform to provide unparalleled resiliency, security and privacy protection for open and closed networks, protecting customers from current and future cyber threats, including spoofing, theft and tampering. This important partnership builds on AIEE's existing services to protect and manage data, communications, devices, sensors and network infrastructure for government, critical infrastructure and commercial enterprises.

With the rapid development of computing technology, the threat surface facing governments and enterprises is expanding, which makes traditional encryption methods vulnerable to cyber attacks. QuantumCloud™ is cryptographically flexible and easy to integrate and expand into existing networks. It enables zero-trust and split-trust networks, creates encryption keys at any endpoint, and eliminates risks associated with key distribution. QuantumCloud™ protects against current cyber vulnerabilities and future quantum threats, securing information in transit and at rest from app to cloud, IoT/mobile to gateway.

David Williams, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Arqit, said: "Governments and businesses around the world are taking urgent action to ensure enhanced resilience against cyber threats. Through our partnership with AIEE, Arqit's unique Symmetric Key Agreement platform will be deployed to customers in the region, giving them the enhanced protection against cyberattacks they need.

Simon St Paul, General Manager of AIEE, said: "We are delighted to have signed this license agreement with Arqit to jointly provide enhanced protection for the advanced communications solutions we provide to customers in the Middle East.

Founded in 1990 and headquartered in Kuwait, AIEE provides high-level engineering support to national communications and IT networks in the Middle East. Since its inception, AIEE has delivered some of the most advanced national networks in the region, supporting multiple sectors from defense to oil. These networks provide critical communications services to public safety users and national infrastructure and require the highest levels of protection against new and advanced cyber threats.

The partnership with Arqit will allow AIEE to locally provide its wide range of customers with the highest level of commercial protection, helping them harden their networks against current and future cyber threats. AIEE is the first company in the region to export technical services with ISO 9001 certification.

In December 2022, Arqit launched QuantumCloud, a cloud-based symmetric key agreement software platform, to provide flexible and lightweight quantum-resistant encryption capabilities. QuantumCloud allows any device to download a lightweight software agent, which then co-creates an unlimited number of encryption keys with any number of other devices. These keys are computationally secure, they are Zero Trust compliant, and can be used as one-time keys.

According to Arqit's official website, QuantumCloud™ enables organizations to simplify and strengthen encryption globally, without requiring any equipment. Users can move from complex PKI infrastructures and the need to trust third parties to an encryption platform designed for the cloud and world of connected devices.

Arqit hopes that in the future all connected devices will be encrypted using QuantumCloud.

In March 2021, Zapata Computing announced a new partnership with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in the Middle East. KAUST officially became an authorized user of Orquestra, Zapata's quantum computing workflow management platform. KAUST is also researching in different directions how to take advantage of quantum technology in the use case of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for aircraft and automotive aerodynamic design.

In August 2021, physicists in Abu Dhabi unveiled the Middle East's first quantum computer. Since then, the UAE has joined a global race with some of the world's most powerful countries and technology companies. Quantum computers can solve problems that cannot be solved by ordinary computers at unimaginable speed. Two BlueFors helium dilution refrigerators from Finland were transported to the Technology Innovation Institute (TII) in Abu Dhabi.
