"AI God" He Yuming will return to academia from Facebook

Recently, He Yuming, a well-known scholar in the field of AI and the inventor of the residual neural network ResNet, announced on his personal website that he will soon return to academia and join the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a professor.
He Yuming, a name that almost everyone knows in the field of computer vision and deep learning. He Yuming's main research areas are computer vision and deep learning. His ResNets paper is the most cited paper in all research areas of Google Scholar Metrics in 2019, 2020 and 2021, and established the basic components of modern deep learning models. ResNet is used in the deep learning model Transformers, AI Go tool AlphaGo Zero, and AI protein structure prediction tool AlphaFold.
He Yuming, who was born in Guangzhou, Guangdong in 1984, has excellent grades since he was a child. He won the first prize in the National Physics Competition in high school and was recommended to Tsinghua University for mechanical engineering and automation. However, he still chose to take the college entrance examination. In 2003, with a standard score of 900, he became the "No. 1 Scholar in the college entrance examination" in Guangdong Province.
After graduating from Tsinghua University, He Yuming entered the Chinese University of Hong Kong as a graduate student, under the tutelage of well-known AI professor Tang Xiaoou, and also participated in related research at Microsoft Research Asia.
In 2009, He Yuming's first paper "Single ImageHaze Removalusing Dark Channel Prior (Single Image Dehazing Technology Based on Dark Primary Color)" won the IEEE International Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) Annual Best Paper Award - this is also the CVPR Since its establishment 25 years ago, it is the first time that a Chinese scholar has won this honor, and the name "He Yuming" has thus become famous in the CV field.
After graduating with a Ph.D. in 2011, He Yuming joined Microsoft Research Asia as a researcher. In 2016, He Yuming left MSRA and joined the Facebook Artificial Intelligence Lab, where he has been a research scientist ever since.
Regarding such a "great god" joining MIT, Nvidia AI scientist Jim Fan said with emotion: "Usually we would congratulate someone for joining MIT, but this time I would like to congratulate MIT for having He Yuming!" Many netizens also expressed envy: "MIT
students I am so lucky to be able to learn directly from him in the future."
