The happiest moment after submitting a paper is to receive the acceptance and publication notification that the paper has been accepted by the journal! But the acceptance of the paper is not the final point of this process. There are still a series of important tasks to be carried out, such as copyright and page fee processing, proofreading, publication and retrieval, publicity and sharing, and tracking of citations, so we must not relax!
This issue focuses on the proofing/proofing (Proof) process. , taking Elsevier Press as an example.

Elsevier's Proof notification email is shown in the figure below. This email has two important messages: (1) Proof link; (2) The browser that opens the link.

The Proof page has many functions. If you are not careful, it is still possible to miss important information. Here I will take you through the main functions of the proof system.
In the Proof system, we can see all the content of the current manuscript, including: author, text and diagrams. Paper navigation is shown in the figure below.
Queries are several questions given by the editor, they need us to solve and reply!
Question 1: Confirm the communication mailbox
This is the contact email address of the corresponding author. Generally, there will be no questions, just answer it briefly! Remember to click "respond"!
Problem 2: Missing Citations
The author is missing 3 references in the text of the paper. The editor suggests removing the cited text or adding a citation. Here is a simple reply, put the 3 references in word, and submit the attachment. Remember to click "respond"!
Question 3: Confirm that the funding is correct
If there is no problem with the funding unit and code, answer yes!
Question 4: Confirm author name
Proof is one of the opportunities to modify the author, some other authors can be added at this stage, and even the order of the authors can be changed. Of course, authors' work units can also be added and modified. However, general journals do not like to do this. If there is any modification, we need to clarify the reasons for the modification of the author and express it in English . It is recommended that you upload an attachment for a detailed explanation.
Question 5: Inform the article fee
The author's article exceeds the number of free pages stipulated by the journal, so an additional fee will be charged. A common method to reduce the number of pages in an article is to redesign the layout of the pictures while ensuring that the content of the pictures remains unchanged, to reduce the space occupied by the pictures, and to reduce the number of pages in the paper. Of course, the clarity of the changed picture must also meet the requirements.
After answering all the questions, you can check the text of the thesis again. Generally, some minor errors such as clerical errors, or inconsistencies in the use of words, and text loss caused by typesetting can be checked out during this process. If you find an error, you can insert a comment in the wrong position, describing the error found!
During the Proof process, you can manually save, so that the proofreading content will not be lost. In addition, we can click the view proof in the upper right corner to download the current version of the manuscript (double-column layout).
After completing all the proofreading, we can submit. After that, although we can view the proofreading content, we cannot make any modifications.
