1 Introduction

1.1 Background and motivation

The data were recorded in a study of the effects of exploring novelty on children's learning success. The study group consisted of children with different types of ADHD and a control group.
In the experiment, both groups (with ADHD and a control group) had to take part in the study on three different days.
On the first day, testers spent 10 to 20 minutes exploring one of two worlds (see one in the image below) to familiarize themselves with the virtual world.
On the second day, test takers had to learn 20 new words and recall them afterwards. After recalling, the testers were again given the task of exploring the virtual world for 10 to 20 minutes. The virtual worlds on day one and day two were the same for some testers and different for others. On the third day, the testers had to recall the vocabulary again (see process overview in the figure below). In the future, more testers will conduct experiments, thereby continuously expanding the data set.

1.2 Dataset

The entire recorded dataset consists of trajectory data of 66 testers in the virtual world as well as several other variables such as gender and age. The dataset is divided into trajectory data and tester information, which are stored in separate CSV files.
Trajectory data is retrieved by tracking the tester's movement in a 3D virtual Minecraft world. The sampling rate is set to tenths of a second. The data contains timestamps and the x, y, and z coordinates of the tester's avatar in the virtual world at a given time. Thanks to software-based digital tracking in the virtual world, sample points contain precise time stamps, free from noise, outliers, ambiguities or other measurement-based biases.
