Virtual machine VMware version: 15.5
MacOS version: CD Install MacOS Catalina 10.15.7 (19H2).iso
Host machine: Windows 10 22H2

2. Problems and solutions:

Question 1: The toolbar of VMTools is gray.
Solution:
Open the virtual machine settings, and change the connection methods of the virtual devices named "CD/DVD" and "floppy disk" to "automatic detection". If there are multiple virtual devices of the same type, all must be modified.

Issue 2: Unable to find component on update server. Please contact VMware technical support or your system administrator.
Processing method:
close the virtual machine -> device -> CD/DVD(SATA) -> hardware -> CD/DVD(SATA), choose to use the ISO image file, select the downloaded and decompressed darwin.iso, and check the connection at startup, Click "OK" again.
Note: The darwin.iso download link is at the end of this article.

Question 3: When updating the MacOS system through the system settings, there may be insufficient MacOS storage space.
Solution:
1. Shut down the virtual machine first, set the virtual machine disk size (for example: 100G, the memory size of the virtual machine does not affect the memory of the host machine) and
enter MacOS Virtual machine settings -> hard disk (SATA) -> extension -> enter the size of the disk to be expanded, and click expand.

2. Turn on the MacOS virtual machine to enter Recovery mode,
enter MacOS virtual machine settings -> enter firmware when powering on -> Enter setup -> Boot from a file -> Recovery -> click -> boot.efi.

Note: This method may cause other compatibility issues, please use it with caution! To upgrade the system, consider reinstalling the new MacOS system.
