[Activity Summary] 0723-COC Shenzhen Community Professional Language and Professional Language Season 1 Activity Summary: The First Perspective

0723-COC Shenzhen Community Professional Language and Professional Language Season 1 Activity Summary

The earth has its rotation, activities cannot be interrupted, and topics cannot be stopped. A pleasant outdoor + workplace discussion and exchange meeting came to an end... Please follow my first perspective and take a look at our event site.

1 Introduction to the event

Just last week, 2023.07.23, the COC Shenzhen community ushered in the first offline event organized and planned by the community itself. This is an event of profound significance, and it also means that the COC Shenzhen community will be active in the circle of Shenzhen urban developers for a long time.

As such an important event, we discussed it many times with the organizers in the early stage of the event topic selection, and finally decided to start with "workplace" as the starting point of the topic, and extend different sub-topics along the line of the workplace, so as to enrich the content of the event.

The main considerations in choosing a workplace topic are the following:

  • The workplace is a topic that most people can’t avoid, something that needs to be faced every day, and how to get a better advancement in the workplace is an ideal answer that everyone in the workplace is very eager to get; therefore, we conclude that such thematic content will more easily resonate with the participants, and can also stimulate everyone to better share relevant content;
  • Since the community is still in the early stage of development, and most of the community members do not know each other, we need more similar public activities to gradually bring together the cohesion of community members and gradually form a considerable force of developers;
  • We are positioned as an urban community, a community that focuses on developers , but we believe that this community should not only have technology , but also have some distinctive humanistic content, so in this event, technology-related content was intentionally avoided .

It can be further confirmed from the following summary that our activity planning route is relatively correct.

2 Activity process

2.1 Event promotion

The event started to be planned a month ago. About a week before the event time, we started to promote and publicize. Thanks to the official event group established by our previous community events, shortly after the promotion, we received registrations and participation from friends, which gave us great encouragement and motivation. We are confident that this event will be successfully held.

In the next few days, we publicized and promoted through several channels such as the official group, the fan push of the C station blog, the targeted private message push of the community members, and the manager/operating team’s private circle of friends. The final number of applicants (including 2 managers) was fixed at 9 people, which basically reached our expected goal of about 10 people.

2.2 Preparations before the event

There is not much preparation before the event, mainly to purchase food and drink materials, and to guide the small partners on how to quickly and correctly find the location of the venue; this reflects the importance of the convenience of public transportation. In this event, some small partners took a long time to find the organization because of the location problem. Remember to optimize this next time.

When purchasing materials, try to seek everyone's opinions, purchase more food and drink materials that can be separated, and add some redundancy to the amount purchased.

2.3 When the activity is in progress

Around 4:00 p.m., I set off from home to the event site. At this time, all my friends were already on the road. According to our agreement, we gathered between 4:30 and 5:00. The main consideration was that we were too early and the weather was too hot. When we arrived at the scene later, we found that the weather was quite good today, with a slight sea breeze and a soft sun, which is very suitable for outdoor sports.

At about 5 o'clock, we gathered 8 friends, and one friend lost his way and needed to be delayed. At this time, we had to insert a small clip:

While we were waiting for our little friends, we turned on the drone shooting mode, intending to show off a coquettish aerial shot. As a result, the drone was placed out for less than a minute, and the drone just flew into the sky, and successfully attracted the attention of the big security guard, who kept staring at us. We also probably understood what it meant, so we quickly took a precious group photo and a short aerial video, and took down the drone. Fortunately, the big security guard is also very friendly, saying that the park cannot fly drones due to the dense population, so put it away quickly.

After our food and drink supplies are on the table, our activities will officially begin.

The whole event is divided into several parts: warm-up interaction, Frisbee game, guests sharing advanced experience in the workplace, discussions on 6 major workplace topics, and distribution of event gifts .

1) Warm-up interaction

In fact, before the official warm-up event started, everyone had already chatted quite high, but basically they didn’t know who the other party was. The most interesting thing was that when we started counting names to see who hadn’t come, everyone sent a message in the group **I’m here**; it’s really a typical meeting of netizens.

First of all, I will be responsible for the warm-up host. In addition to self-introduction, I also briefly introduce the background of the CSDN-COC community, some basic information of the COC Shenzhen community, and the background and main content of this event.

In fact, during the period, what the friends are more concerned about is: What exactly is the COC community of **CSDN? **Here, I will answer this question in a unified way:

The COC community, the full name is COC (Community On Community), which is based on the COC community built by Devpress, and finely operates the traffic of the CSDN community. There are mainly four categories: enterprise community, brand technical community, urban community and technical community.

The Shenzhen community belongs to the urban community here, which aims to build a platform for urban developers to communicate and link, hoping that everyone can feel the warmth of home in big cities. Just like the slogan of the Shenzhen community: a city of young struggling people, a warm home of developers. Here, code changes life, and development creates the future!

2) Frisbee game

After the warm-up event, we first arranged to order food, mainly high-powered food such as barbecue, pizza, pasta, etc., with the beer and iced black tea we purchased earlier, with the sea breeze blowing, eating barbecue and drinking herbal tea, in a word, cool!

It took about 45 minutes for the food to be delivered after ordering, so everyone began to play Frisbee happily.

Fortunately, there were not many people in the big playground on Sunday afternoon, and a large area was left for us to play to our heart's content, as if it was reserved, not to mention how cool it was.

First of all, I would like to thank the CSDN official for sponsoring 5 CSDN customized frisbees for this event. The big frisbee has a very good texture.

However, since the few friends who participated in the meeting were playing Frisbee for the first time, without mastering any skills, it was just two words: blind throwing . With a brute force, just fly the Frisbee up and you're good to go.

Fortunately, everyone's athletic talent is very good. After playing for a while, they gradually mastered the tricks of Frisbee, and began to be able to realize fixed-point Frisbee. This is the embodiment of learning ability.

For pictures of everyone playing Frisbee, see Chapter 4. It doesn’t matter how well you play, the important thing is that you dare to participate in the game!

3) Guests share advanced experience in the workplace

In this session of [Advanced Workplace], I invited Shi Yunsheng (Brother Sheng) and Mr. Nut to share some interesting experiences and successful experiences on the topic of [Advanced Workplace].

Brother Sheng: He is also one of the principals of the COC Shenzhen community. He also participates in community organization and operation in the community. In actual work, he is mainly responsible for related design work in the product field.

Mr. Nut: An excellent evangelist in the Hongmeng technical community, he has gradually developed the open source community of the Hongmeng system, and started technical evangelism in various ways such as campus trips. He is an ultimate technical evangelist.

In the advanced stage of the workplace, Brother Sheng initiated the sharing first. Combining his actual experience, Brother Sheng shared his valuable career experience from starting as a programmer, then transforming the technology stack, and then investing in entrepreneurship, then transferred from entrepreneurship to the workplace, and then engaged in product-related management. Every step of the transformation is an improvement in cognition.

Then came the sharing of Mr. Nut. He started from his own research on cutting-edge technologies, and talked about how he became acquainted with Hongmeng, how to build the Hongmeng technical community, and how to start Hongmeng’s technical evangelism step by step. I encountered difficulties during this period. If I can get efficient resource support from the leadership and the company through my own effective communication, then Nut Teacher has a very strong influence in the Hongmeng open source industry. Now, Mr. Nut has started the road of Hongmeng evangelism on campus, hoping to spread the seeds of Hongmeng technology in major universities across the country. I believe that in the near future, the fruits of Hongmeng will surely be plentiful. Salute to Mr. Nut!

4) Discussion on 6 major workplace topics

During the event, we prepared the following 6 workplace discussion topics in advance:

Due to the intense on-site discussion and limited space, I only post some core points of view for your reference. Not all of them are correct, and the most important thing is the one that suits you.

  • It has been more than half a year since the epidemic was released. Do you think the current job-hopping market is as active as you expected?

There are several conclusions:

  1. The current recruitment market is far less active than imagined, or even sluggish; many companies are not actually looking for people when they are vacant, and the recruiting party is also waiting and watching;
  2. It is becoming more and more difficult for junior technicians, and the market is not very friendly to juniors who can replace higher ones, especially fresh graduates with 1-2 years of work experience, waiting for them will be a more severe threshold test;
  3. Don't say anything naked, it is very important to find a horse by riding a donkey; make sufficient pre-class preparation and psychological expectations;
  4. In big cities, it may take 3-6 months for you to resign or be laid off, and then find a job, and you have to fight for your own hard power; in comparison, in second- and third-tier cities, it may be easier to find a job under such circumstances, one to two months;
  5. Nowadays, job-hopping or layoffs usually result in a flat salary or even a salary cut, and it is more important to keep one’s job;
  6. There are still pitfalls for high-end positions, but they are more difficult and require sufficient accumulation and long-term planning.
  • When you are new to the workplace, or you are new to a company, how do you think you can integrate into the team as quickly as possible?

There are several conclusions:

  1. Eat and drink with the team
  2. Ask old colleagues more often
  3. Try to buy some native products from your hometown, eat them for the team, and close the distance
  • At work, you always feel that you are being "targeted" by your immediate boss. What do you think? How can we break this situation?

There are several conclusions:

  1. One word is "恨", if you are not happy, do it! This is a bit extreme, everyone should treat it reasonably, not everyone is suitable;
  2. Express your dissatisfaction reasonably, and communicate effectively to let the other party know that you cannot accept this "target"; remember to endure it blindly, otherwise it may get worse;
  3. The law of diverting attention: When you feel that you really can't work together, try to see if you can move to another team, and you may find other development opportunities;
  4. If there are signs of being laid off in the company or the team, and you are "targeted" for this reason, you should consider properly protecting your legal rights; if you leave the company hastily and voluntarily, you will fall into their tricks;
  5. In the above-mentioned unavoidable situations, the worst plan is to leave at once; remember, it is an unwise choice to say something naked; no matter how hard you have to look for a horse, it will not be too late to leave when you have a suitable opportunity; during this period, you only need to do a good job of the essential work, and you don’t need to pay too much attention to the “targeted” things.
  • In the workplace, do you think you have "real" friends? Talk about your opinions.

There are several conclusions:

  1. Correctly understand what is a "friend"; draw this line clearly;
  2. Being able to help each other in technology and work does not mean that they are still friends in life;
  3. Recognize workplace interests.
  • After staying in a company for a long time, it is easy to have a thought: I can't find a sense of belonging in this team or company, and I can't even find my value in the team. How to break through this kind of psychology?

There are several conclusions:

  1. Think clearly about what you think of as "value and sense of belonging"; many people may not find value or sense of belonging, but do not clearly understand what value and sense of belonging are;
  2. If you really do some worthless things, try to broaden your technology and knowledge boundaries, find valuable things from worthless things, and cultivate them;
  3. It is used to express your point of view on worthlessness, try to communicate reasonably with the team, take the initiative to undertake some valuable work content, and build yourself;
  4. If the appeals are not satisfied, it is bound to go to two extremes: continuous internal friction or pack up and leave; continuous internal friction is not advisable, time is always precious, so internal friction, it is not easy to find the field that you are good at, spend time to make breakthroughs, make up for some of your shortcomings, inquire about the recruitment market earlier, and make sufficient preparations for a good job in the next company.
  • Have you ever tried a second side job outside the workplace? Can share your experiences and thoughts.

There are several conclusions:

  1. Writing a blog can’t just be a profitable sideline, unless you can become one in ten thousand top bloggers; instead, you can think of blogging and publishing columns as a way to output and force yourself to input, improving your technical strength and depth of thinking;
  2. The sideline business has a bonus period. During the bonus period, it is possible to get a good profit simply by increasing the amount;
  3. Often the ones that are not so popular (such as gray products) make money quickly;
  4. There are many ways to make money derived from AI such as ChatGPT, as long as it is based on one's own cognition and execution; for example, the simplest early selling account can earn several million a month, but not everyone can earn this money;
  5. If you want to make money from a sideline business, try to enter the field you are familiar with, otherwise you may not be able to get back your money;
  6. Game promotion, the big head has been taken away by the platform; there are not many opportunities for ordinary promotion and newcomers, and it is even more difficult to make money, and the various rules of them are enough for you;
  7. Projects with capital inflows, such as many Internet products in the early days, are examples of violent new acquisitions. For example, it is easy to do and quickly produces results; however, the current capital environment is not optimistic, so it is even more difficult to attract new projects like this;
  8. If you want to choose to do some agency projects, you must think twice. There are many pitfalls, various terms and traps are not good for the agent, and you can avoid it if you can.

Because there are many topics and many participants; for the first topic, everyone took turns to speak. As a result, it took nearly 15 minutes to complete the round. Considering that there might not be enough time in the future, we adjusted the speaking strategy in time, and changed it to raising hands for each topic, taking the initiative to speak, and successfully controlled the time for the activity until the topic discussion was completed in an orderly manner.

5) Event gift distribution

At the end of the event, we will distribute gifts to everyone. Here, we would also like to thank Mr. Nut (an excellent evangelist in the Hongmeng Technology Community ) for giving each of our participants a certain Hongmeng customized baseball cap, which is a great gift.

The gifts provided by CSDN this time include custom-made frisbees, custom-made physical medals, and best-selling technical books;

2.4 Event closing

After the venue was over, the participants went back to their homes, and I rushed home with the event materials, because I had to do some finishing operations of the event as soon as possible.

Therefore, I completed two things in a tight time: the first is to complete the collection of event fees (AA system), and the second is to quickly design a questionnaire about the experience of participating in the event (see Chapter 4).

The happy weekend activities ended successfully in everyone's goodbye.

3 Activity Thinking

After this offline event, as an event organizer, I also have some thoughts to share with you:

  • An activity that fully meets all your fantasies does not exist. Before designing an activity, it is meaningless to think about it ten thousand times. The important thing is to consider how to implement the activity; otherwise, it will become a castle in the air holding a keyboard in the mouth;
  • When the opinions of the activity are deadlocked for many times and cannot be decided, a person needs to make a decision, implement it first, and then consider optimization;
  • The number of people for small-scale topic discussions and in-depth exchanges is best controlled at about 10 people. In the event, the experience given to me is the same; if the number of people increases, the venue is difficult to control, and the time, process, and content are relatively difficult to control. Often the effect may not be so good, and the experience for the participants will be poor;
  • In terms of event promotion, this event is a small event, so we basically only need to cover our own private domain, which is almost enough; the event itself is also focused on the same city offline, so the number of people in the online community may not be able to help you quickly find how many suitable people to participate in your event; this requires the organizer to use his own advantages (technical strength, community influence, reliable personality, etc.) to actively attract everyone to participate in this event; activity goals;
  • As an offline event that many people participate in, the relevant materials must be prepared adequately, especially the basic food and drink materials must be in place, otherwise the experience for everyone will be poor;
  • The current offline activities are basically AA system, so it is necessary to clarify with each participant, the form of the AA system, and find out the degree of acceptance of this, so as to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings and disputes;
  • If it is the first time for the organizer to organize an event, it is strongly recommended to choose a venue that you are familiar with, which will bring you great convenience and reduce the risk of various unknown problems encountered at the event site;
  • I don’t think the gift (reward) of the event is the most important thing. Participants are not interested in the gift of the conference, but hope that the hard-working offline activities can benefit themselves; such as establishing contacts, such as understanding some unknown knowledge, such as learning some new ideas and ideas, etc.; as event organizers, we should also stand in the perspective of the participants and try our best to meet these needs;
  • The time concept of the venue is very important; because we arranged this event relatively tightly, the event was in progress, and the later it felt that the time might not be enough, so we adjusted the strategy in time, and fortunately, the event was successfully completed within a similar time;
  • If possible, try to choose a place with relatively developed public transportation, so as to maximize the convenience of participants and reduce unnecessary troubles;
  • Don’t worry too much about the silence of the event. Those who can take the initiative to sign up to participate are a group of people with ideas, actions, and courage. Under the collision of thinking, the atmosphere will only become more and more active. Of course, to be on the safe side, you still need to prepare some warm-up topics and communication skills.

4 Activity return visit

As usual, after the event, I also sent an anonymous questionnaire about the experience of participating in the event to the participants. The main purpose is to understand everyone’s feelings and evaluations of the event, so as to better optimize the offline activities in the future. Let’s take a look at your feedback.

I also hope that next time our community activities can give you a better experience, and I also welcome more community partners to join our community activities. In the activities, we will grow together, link together, and be awesome together.

5 Photos of the event

It is rare that the friends of the COC Shenzhen community gather together. Naturally, it is indispensable to take pictures. The weather is strong enough and the scenery is charming enough. We have left a lot of precious photos for us. Let’s enjoy them together.
