UE4-vegetation system usage

1. Mode Select vegetation and enter the drawing mode

If the vegetation is whitish when drawn, you can check whether there are parameters beginning with SSS in the vegetation material. If necessary, change the intensity to 0, and the vegetation color will be normal.

Note: When painting on a Static Mesh object, Static Mesh Mobility cannot be Movable, only Static/Static two modes can paint vegetation.

2. Select a certain vegetation in the plant, and it will appear in the parameter definition of the drawing panel

1. Density/1Kuu: Vegetation density, the higher the density, the more vegetation can be brushed.

2. Radius: The distance between two vegetations. The larger the value is, the fewer vegetations will be within the brush range of the same size, and the distance between vegetations will be larger and larger.

3. Press the Shift mode to switch to erasing. If the vegetation is not reduced during erasing, you can check the erasing density setting. It is displayed in the top toolbar. Cause: If the drawing density is set too high, the erasing density value is too large, and erasing will have no effect, because in the vegetation erasing area you selected, the number of vegetation has not reached the vegetation density you set, so it cannot be erased. You need to modify the vegetation density value or the erasing density value to erase. If you modify the erasing density value, the erasing density value must be lower than the drawing density value to erase.

4. Scaling: When drawing vegetation, the scaling size of the vegetation will be randomly generated according to the set value. The performance effect is that the vegetation is high or low.

5. Z offset: The setting value will randomly generate the value of the Z axis to offset up and down. The performance effect vegetation height may have a suspended state.

6. Align to normal: Check it, and in places with slopes, the vegetation generation direction will be consistent with the slope normal direction. If it is not checked, drawing vegetation will use the world scene coordinates to go straight up and down by default. If you encounter a place with a large slope, the drawn vegetation may have a suspended effect.

7. Ground Slope Angle: Set the range of the slope to draw vegetation, and the slope beyond the set angle value cannot draw vegetation.

8. Height: Based on the world coordinate Z value of 0, set the height range of the terrain that can draw vegetation. Vegetation cannot be drawn at places higher than the maximum height.

In instance settings:

9. Mobility: the basic default is static

10. Removal distance: The vegetation is removed according to the distance of the camera, and the removal is generally not set here.

11. The remaining parameters basically do not need to be changed, just keep the default.

Note: When plotting, each vegetation needs to set the drawing properties separately.

3. Reapply

Understanding: Reset the brushed vegetation area. For example, if you brush a piece of vegetation with a density of 1000 and want to reduce the vegetation density to 500, change the mode to Reapply, set the density adjustment factor from 1 to 0.5, and directly control the brush to draw in the vegetation area, and the vegetation amount will be automatically modified.

Density adjustment factor changed to 0.5

Note: It will be recalculated every time you click to draw. For example, if there are 1000 vegetation in the original, set the density adjustment factor to 0.5, press the draw button for the first time to reduce to 500, keep the parameters unchanged, click the mouse again and press draw, the number of vegetation will be refreshed to 250, and the number of vegetation will be reduced by half for the third time. When it cannot be modified, the number of vegetation will remain unchanged.

4. Single mode

Only one vegetation can be drawn each time, and one mouse click is considered one time. If you select multiple vegetation to paint in this mode, they will be drawn alternately. One cycle draws at a time.

5. Filling

Select a vegetation and directly fill the selected object, such as filling vegetation in a static mesh. If you set the mobility of the static mesh to be movable, it can be filled but the vegetation cannot be removed. To remove vegetation, you need to set the mobility of the static mesh to static or fixed mode.

Select to draw vegetation, click on the static mesh body, and set the vegetation density and radius.

6. Erase

Turn to the second and third summary content

7. Remove

First use the selection function to select a single vegetation in the scene, click Remove, and the selected vegetation will be removed.

Click Delete to delete the selected vegetation.

8. Filter

When drawing, you can choose which layer to draw on. If there is no selected layer, vegetation will not be drawn on that layer. The same goes for erasing.
