Canonical Launches Open Source Project Sunbeam

Canonical has launched a new open source project to enable organizations to transition their small proprietary IT solutions to OpenStack. Canonical says the project, called Sunbeam, is free and does not require expensive professional services.

Sunbeam's goal is to deploy OpenStack in a hybrid environment where Kubernetes and native nodes coexist. With the ability to run OpenStack inside containers, Sunbeam can be considered an enhanced version of OpenStack on Kubernetes. Sunbeam leverages Canonical Juju to use the charms operator to orchestrate and manage nodes in a multi-cloud or hybrid cloud.

Vault 1.14 brings ACME and more improvements to PKI, AWS roles

Recently, HashiCorp Vault 1.14 was released, including Vault Secrets Operator GA, ACME PKI, and the new OpenLDAP secrets engine.

OpenTelemetry and Elastic common standards are coming

Standardization is always a good thing, but when it comes to very popular and used tools and technologies, common standards can at least make life easier for developers. At the other extreme, a technology's survival depends on it. This is the case with WebAssembly, as there is an urgent need for a common standard for components so Wasm can be used to deploy code very efficiently anywhere on any type of device running a CPU.

The combination of observability tools Elastic Common Schema (ECS) and OpenTelemetry Semantic Conventions is a natural fit. Specifically, the creators of the open source Elastic are contributing ECS to OTel and are working on joint development of the two projects. The integration of ECS and OTel helps the OTel project move towards the ultimate goal of full compatibility and standardization with any observable tool or process.
