Use it or lose it! Google is about to purge inactive accounts

If you haven't logged in to your Google account for a long time, it's best to log in as soon as possible, or you will most likely lose your account.

On May 16, 2023, Google announced that it will begin deleting accounts that have been inactive for at least two years.

If a Google account has not been used or logged in for at least two years, the account and its contents may be deleted, including content in Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet, Calendar) and Google Photos.

The policy will take effect immediately, and accounts will be deleted from December 2023.

Why is Google doing this? The official answer is that the move is aimed at preventing security risks. In the past, even with protection in place, an account was more likely to be compromised if it had not been used for a long time.

To prevent your account from being deleted, all you need to do is log in to your Google account or any Google service.

The easiest way to keep your Google account active is to log in at least once every two years. If you have recently logged into your Google Account or any of Google's services, your account will be considered active and will not be deleted.

Activity may include your logging in, or performing the following types of actions while logged into your Google Account:

Read or send emails, use Google Drive, watch YouTube videos, download apps from the Google Play Store, use Google Search, sign in to third-party apps or services with Sign in with Google.

Reminder again, Google started deleting inactive accounts in December this year! If you haven't logged in to your Google account for two or three years, log in quickly.
