Application method for downloading DEM data of 12m and 30m TanDEM-X digital elevation models

This article introduces the application method for downloading TanDEM-X data , which is digital elevation model ( DEM ) data with a   global spatial resolution of 12meters and meters.30

The Tandem-X satellite project was launched in June 2010, and two satellites, TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X were launched on June 21, 2010 and December 21, 2010 respectively . The Tandem-X satellites fly at extremely low distances, forming a pair of independent but highly coordinated radar satellites. The main task of the Tandem-X satellite project is to obtain high-resolution three-dimensional topographic and landform data of the earth's surface through synthetic aperture radar technology. By collecting and processing radar echo data, Tandem-X can provide a high-precision digital elevation model (Digital Elevation Model, DEM ), which can be used in mapping, terrain analysis, landform research, hydrological simulation and other applications. At present, TanDEM-X data has global DEM data with different resolutions such as 12meters, 30meters and meters, among which the data of meters and meters cannot be downloaded publicly for the time being, but needs to be obtained after application; this article will introduce the application process in detail .901230

It should be noted that the application process of 12Mi and 30Mi's TanDEM-X data is very cumbersome - during the application process, not only the purpose of data use needs to be filled in , but also the research group that applies for the data needs to be explained, so there is a high probability that individual applications cannot If it is approved, it needs to be applied in units of research groups, laboratories, and even the entire institution; and after passing the application, it is not possible to download all the data in the world, but only to download the data of a limited area. It is impossible to continue downloading; and there is another point, that is, the data application website is still very stuck, which is not convenient. Therefore, if you are an individual or need a lot of data, it is not recommended to use the TanDEM-X data of 12Mi and Mi , and it is better to use other data that can be downloaded publicly.30

First, we enter the application website12 of m and 30m TanDEM-X data (https://tandemx-science.dlr.de/cgi-bin/wcm.pl?page=TDM-Proposal-Submission-Procedure), and in the upper left of the screen Select the " Investigators Registration " option in the corner, as shown in the figure below.

Then, in the pop-up window, create an account as required.

Then, after the registration is complete, we wait for the verification email and click the link in the email after receiving the email to verify the registration. As shown below.

Then, go back to the registration page just now, and click the following button on the registration page.

Then, we will return to the home page and enter the account we just registered in the upper left corner; as shown in the figure below.

It should be noted here that if there is an error after entering the data, if the login fails, you can log in several times; or confirm whether the account has been verified in the email. After we log in successfully, select the " Investigator " option; as shown in the figure below.

Then, in the new window, select the " Create DEM Proposal " option to submit the application for DEM data. As shown below.

Next, in the new window, select the " DEM " option in the drop-down box, as shown in the figure below.

Then, you can enter the application filling interface. As shown in the figure below, this is only the first page of the application, and there are still a lot of content to be filled in, including the purpose of our downloaded data, the introduction of the data research area, the introduction of the research group, etc., which are very diverse.

For example, the second page is an introduction to the research group you belong to, including the research experience and organization of the research group.

If you really need this data, then fill out the entire application and select the " Submit " option in the last step.

If you fill in the application correctly, you will receive an email in the registered mailbox just now, indicating that the application has been submitted successfully; later, everyone waits for the application to be approved, and then you can start downloading the data in the specified area.

  So far, you're done.
