Elsevier submission process (overleaf generates pdf) pitfalls and solutions

1. System registration of first author and corresponding author:

          Normal Registration: Editorial Manager®

2. Submission process (required documents):

You can take a look at the official submission process first: the detailed steps for the author to submit in the Editorial Manager are here! [Elsevier Editorial Manager User Guide]_哔哩哔哩_bilibili

        2.1) Select the article type

2.2) What the journal needs to submit

On the left side of the submission website, there are templates for some documents that must be submitted, such as the Credit author statement, which can be downloaded and selected according to individual requirements. For the rest, if the template is not given on the journal website, you can Google the Elsevier xxx template yourself, and after you find it, you can modify it according to the template.

2.3) Among them, the most important (pit) is to submit the manuscript (menuscript):

2.3.1:  Take the overleaf I use as an example, first make sure that .tex does not report any errors on the overleaf interface (warnings can be ignored (pit))

2.3.2: Elsevier generates pdf   through Editor Manager (EM) by submitting source files , so in addition to template files in overleaf, sty files are required.

Example: Take Elsevier's Knowledge-based system as an example: there will be an author's note on the submission interface,

In the link, you can find the overleaf template recommended by the journal (recommended by Elsevier) (mainly focus on .sty and .cls files), and upload it to the overleaf project together

2.3.3: After writing the text, export the entire project and compress the package ( Note: The project cannot contain subfolders, otherwise an error will be reported )

         2.3.4:

There are many problems in the process of uploading the manuscript (Menuscript), drag the exported project compression package into the submission website (you can also upload the manuscript files one by one), and select the type as Menuscript

2.3.5: Adjust the order (note) it is recommended that the tex file be the first (choose Menuscript), and the image files needed for manuscript acceptance. eps png, pdf, etc. (choose Figure by default) in the back

2.4) In the next step, add the reviewers you found during the recommendation period (intention only). The next step will be fine

2.5) Select normally, answer the question, and go to the next step

2.6) It should be noted that currently students are generally submitting papers, so the system defaults that the current submitting user is the first author + corresponding author . When adding a new author, when the role of corresponding author needs to be transferred , the current user of Build PDF will not be able to see it afterwards , you need to log in to the account of the corresponding author to continue the subsequent submission operation. After adding all the information, Build pdf.

2.7) Select OA or not OA, just continue

2.8) Before submitting, remember to look at the generated pdf

         2.9) Submit without problems

my problem

3. Elsevier generates the manuscript pdf as a log file for compiling tex

It looks very bluffing, dozens of pages of log, the content is roughly as follows:

Solution: Find the content of the error prompt in the generated pdf, the error with Working is not very important, for example:

The rest of the errors are problems with the manuscript you submitted , such as File 'thumbnails/cas-email.jpeg' not found

         Not only may there be problems with your .tex, but the official sty provided by the journal may also have problems, because it cannot contain sub-files, so there will be this problem;

Solution: Modify the path 'thumbnails/cas-email.jpeg'-->'cas-email.jpeg' , upload the required jpeg, re-build the pdf after modifying the error, and continue to modify if there is an error; (step on the pit: In addition, there is a high probability that the common .sty used to write a discussion does not need to be downloaded and uploaded again)

In addition, after building pdf, there is an extra email picture at the end of the article

4. Solution, modify the .sty file

One solution, modify the sty file to load the image code:

(The original sty on the left, the modified sty on the right, and a row of content in the red box)
