VMware three network connection modes: bridge, NAT, host only

2.1 nat mode

Virtual machine - settings, modify network connection mode

network adapter select nat

Open Baidu, search for Windows Server 2016, the search is successful, and the server can access the Internet normally

At this time, it is in nat mode, press and hold win+r, enter cmd, and then press Enter to open the command prompt interface, enter ipconfig, and view the IP address of the server

Let's compare it with the host IP

At this point, you can see that the two IP addresses are not in the same network segment.

2.2 Bridge mode

Let's switch to bridge mode and check the IP address of the server

Let's compare it with the IP address of the host

At this time, it is found that the two are in the same network segment

2.3 Summary

VMware mainly has three network working modes, namely bridge, nat, and host-only mode.

Bridging is like a host virtualizing a host in a local area network. This virtual host is in the same network segment as the physical host, and receives the IP assigned from the same DHCP server as the host.

The nat mode is like using the host as a router. All traffic of the virtual machine is forwarded through the host. From the perspective of the external network, the virtual machine does not have its own IP address. This mode is recommended because it saves IP addresses.

The host-only mode is like establishing a dedicated local area network inside the host machine. This local area network does not communicate with the external network, and the virtual machines communicate with each other.
