Opera One will replace Opera browser

guide Opera recently launched a new browser called Opera One, the browser is in the developer preview stage, users can visit the official website to download and try (link). The browser's ultimate goal is to replace its flagship Opera browser later this year.

Opera One follows the "modular design concept" and uses a new multithreaded compositor (Multithreaded Compositor) to handle different content displayed on the web page. Opera claims to be the first Chromium-based browser to do this.

The appearance of Opera One has been completely refactored based on a modular design. As can be seen from the animation above, Opera One’s sidebar and tab bar modules are the most obvious. When users add functions to the sidebar or open tabs, the elements in the corresponding modules will automatically adjust to make room for space. This user-friendly design keeps the interface uncluttered and smooth.

Opera One also introduced a feature called Tab Islands (tab island?), Tab Islands is the tab page grouping function, by dividing related tab pages into different groups (Opera calls them islands), users will be freed from messy tab pages liberated from. For example, browsers such as Arc and Vivaldi all have this function. Each browser has its own characteristics in form, but the overall difference is not too big.

  • Tabs are automatically arranged contextually into dedicated islands without requiring manual adjustments by the user (or manual adjustments by the user)
  • Collapse or expand islands with one click to hide or reveal content;
  • Shop, study, work, play - switch between islands and stay focused. For more Linux information, please check: https://www.linuxprobe.com/

Opera One not only redesigned the user interface, but also integrated a multithreaded compositor (Multithreaded Compositor), which can handle advanced animations and transitions, resulting in the smoothest and most responsive interface to date.

By using layer-based animations that run entirely on the compositor thread rather than the UI thread, animations continue to run even if the UI process is interrupted, resulting in uninterrupted UI animations, seamless visuals, and a fluid experience.

Finally, Opera also integrates ChatGPT and ChatSonic in its sidebar function, allowing users to open these two AI services in a small window on the side. Opera One also integrates an AI Prompts feature that can use the above-mentioned services to provide suggestions on shortening articles, highlighting key points, creating tweets, etc. about the content of the current page, and these options will change according to the page.

Other than that, the current version of Opera One is not that different from the existing Opera browser, which is currently available in a developer preview, and the official version of Opera One will be launched later this year and will replace the applicable browser.  Standard Opera for Windows, macOS and  Linux .
