Artificial intelligence pioneer Geoffrey Hinton, known as one of the "godfathers of artificial intelligence," has resigned from his position at Google so that he can publicly express his concerns about how artificial intelligence will become a reality -- artificial intelligence. Jeffrey Hinton said in an interview, "Now I regret my life's work. Although artificial intelligence has many beneficial uses, I worry that this technology may be used irresponsibly, causing unintended consequences."

According to Geoffrey Hinton, one of the immediate problems posed by AI is the proliferation of fake images, videos and text online, which may make it increasingly difficult for ordinary people to discern the truth. Generative AI continues to improve, and creators of false and manipulative content can use these tools to deceive and confuse people.
Geoffrey Hinton is also concerned that AI may affect future work. While chatbots like ChatGPT are currently complementary to human workers, they could eventually replace those who handle routine tasks such as personal assistants, accountants and translators. While AI may relieve some of the monotony of work, it may also eliminate more jobs than intended, disrupting the balance of society.
In the longer term, Geoffrey Hinton worries that future versions of the technology will pose a threat to humans, as they may learn unexpected behaviors from the vast amounts of data they analyze, especially if AI allows systems to generate and execute their own code.
Jeffrey Hinton is just one of thousands of technology leaders and researchers who are struck by the exponential growth of AI in fields ranging from sex chat to medical diagnosis. Last month, a popular open letter in which leaders called for a moratorium on AI development until sufficient controls were established. Hinton did not sign it.
