Accidental deletion, hardware failure, operating error, network attack, and even natural disasters can directly or indirectly lead to immeasurable data loss. In order to avoid losses and reduce downtime, users of Ubuntu systems should consciously deploy correct backup and recovery strategies, including the selection of related tools. Below we briefly introduce two powerful data and recovery software in ubuntu.
Deja Dup can back up files and directories in the ubuntu system to external expansion disks, cloud storage or other locations in the computer. When data is damaged, it can also easily restore related data quickly.
TimeShift, as the name suggests, is a powerful time machine that can take snapshots of the system on a regular basis. Once an error occurs in the system, it can be quickly restored to the previous time point, or even the specified time point, and the operation is as simple as an ordinary system update.

Deja Dup is one of the pre-installed software in Ubuntu. We can search and install it directly from the ubuntu software center. Of course, we can also install it directly in the terminal:
sudo apt install deja-dup
Next, let's take a look at Deja Dup's backup settings.
Click folders to save to configure the directory to be backed up
. By default, the files, documents, and configuration information in the home directory are backed up. Of course, we can also add and choose other directories that need to be backed up.
The Folders to ignore function is to exclude the selected directory from backup, that is, the directory and related files will not be backed up.
The Storage location node allows us to choose the location to store the backup data, which can be a local file directory, a cloud disk or a mobile hard disk.
The Scheduling node allows us to make a backup plan, and the default is to perform a backup once a week. It can also be modified to be backed up every month or every year.
In the overview node, we can perform backup plans or restore actions.
