We want to draw the minimum bounding rectangle of this area feature layer - including the minimum bounding rectangle of this complete area feature layer (that is, the final rectangle), and the minimum bounding rectangle of each area feature in this layer (i.e. you end up with multiple rectangles).

  Such requirements can be realized through the " Minimum Bounding Geometry " tool in ArcMap software . " Minimum Bounding Geometry " is a tool in ArcGIS, which can be used to draw geometric figures such as the minimum circumscribing rectangle, minimum circumscribing circle, ellipse, rotating ellipse, etc. for the surface feature layer; using this tool can help us better understand the surface The distribution and spatial characteristics of feature layers for better spatial analysis and geographic decision-making. For example, we can use this tool to draw the minimum bounding rectangle for houses and buildings in an administrative area, so as to understand the distribution of buildings, area size and aspect ratio, etc., to help plan urban construction, optimize infrastructure and improve residents Life.

  First, in the ArcMap software, select " System Toolboxes " → " Data Management Tools.tbx " → " Features " → " Minimum Bounding Geometry " option; as shown in the figure below.

  • Input Features: The polygon feature layer to be calculated.

  • Geometry Type: Select the type of geometric object to be created, including minimum circumscribed rectangle, rotated rectangle, minimum circumscribed circle, ellipse and other shapes.
    • Rectangle By Area: Calculated based on the rectangle with the smallest area.
    • Rectangle By Width: Calculated based on the rectangle with the smallest width.
    • Convex Hull: Whether to calculate the convex hull of the surface features.
    • Circle: The smallest circle.
    • Envelope: Enveloping rectangle.
  • Group Option: Select a field or a set of fields to group polygon features, and you can choose not to group.
  • Grouping Field: When the grouping option is selected, one or more fields can be selected to specify the grouping method.

  These parameters can be selected and adjusted according to specific needs to obtain the best calculation results.

  As shown in the figure above, if we select in the " Group Option " option, it means that we will draw the minimum circumscribed rectangle with each area featureNONE in this area feature layer as a unit, and the result we get is as shown below multiple rectangles as shown .
