Burst! The latest GPT-4 interface was blasted by CS students "Open Source GitHub"! OpenAI Threat: Sue You If You Don't Delete The Project! Put you in jail! ...

Recently, a computer student from Europe even made GPT-4 "open source". You can read the article posted by GG before. It's awesome! GitHub has open sourced a free "white prostitution" GPT-4 method! Has received 7.8k stars! Netizen: The strongest benefit! Using the API of the website supported by OpenAI, developers can experience GPT-3.5/GPT-4 for free. In this regard, OpenAI urgently sent an email warning: close the project within 5 days, or file a lawsuit.

As we all know, ChatGPT is free, but if you want to try the latest and strongest GPT-4, basically the only way to go is "krypton gold"——

Either subscribe to ChatGPT Plus, or pay to call the API.

Although there are also some websites that integrate GPT, such as Microsoft's Bing, You.com, etc., they all carry some private goods.

So, what if you want to experience a more native GPT-4, but don't want to spend the money?

Recently, a project called GPT4Free was born. Not only won 18.5k stars on GitHub, but also boarded the Trending weekly list.

However, Xtekky, the CS student who made the project, says OpenAI is now giving him five days to shut down the entire project or face lawsuits.

The contradiction is that the websites used by GPT4Free pay a lot of fees to OpenAI to use the GPT model.

Therefore, the website not only has to pay for the query that comes in through the script, but also does not get any traffic itself.

If this website relies on advertising revenue to offset the cost of API usage, then this operation may lose money.

Disguised "open source" GPT-4

Now, if you want to use GPT-4, in addition to directly recharging as a member, you can only wait in line for the API, and then continue to krypton gold...

And GPT4Free allows us to use (bai) (piao) GPT-4 and GPT-3.5 models for free through websites such as You.com, Quora, and CoCalc.

At the same time, GPT4Free is also very simple to configure.

First, install GPT4Free on WSL2 (Windows Subsystem for Linux) on your computer. It only takes a few minutes and involves cloning the GitHub repository, using pip to install some required libraries, and running a Python script.

After starting the script, use a browser to visit http://localhost:8501 to get a chatbot.

On the back end, GPT4Free uses various API addresses used by websites like You.com that provide answers through GPT-3.5/GPT-4.

Specifically, the GPT4Free script will first access https://you.com/api/streamingSearch, pass various parameters, and then get the returned JSON and format it.

In addition, the GPT4Free repository has scripts for fetching data from other sites such as Quora, Forefront, and TheB, which any developer can base their own chatbot on.

In this regard, Xtekky said: "You can achieve the same effect by only opening the tabs of these websites. I can open the tabs of Phind, You, etc. on my browser and make a large number of requests. My warehouse is just opened. There is an easier way to achieve this.”

On Sunday, Xtekky posted an announcement saying he was working on some improvements to his chatbot.

This chatbot is independent of the GitHub repository and is mainly used as an example to demonstrate how to use GPT4Free.

Xtekky said he plans to move the chatbot to a different domain name, rename it g4f (short for GPT4Free), and change the logo (which is now very similar to OpenAI).

Was approached by OpenAI

Xtekky said that since the project is not directly connected to the company's APIs, OpenAI should not target him for using other sites' APIs, especially since those APIs are not protected on the public web.

"OpenAI could also contact these sites and warn/notify them, and then work with me to take down the content, but it looks like this (legal threat) is coming from OpenAI entirely, and what they're saying is basically, this project of mine is directly attacking OpenAI, said Xtekky.

If the owner of these sites has questions about his script queries, they should contact him directly. For example, Xtekky has already removed scripts using phind.com, ora.sh, and writesonic.com at the request of some websites.

Perhaps more importantly, Xtekky pointed out, these sites can prevent external use of their internal APIs through common security measures, such as blocking API traffic from IPs other than their own.

Xtekky said he has advised all the sites he wrote to to secure their APIs, but none have done so. So even if he pulls those scripts from his repo, other developers can do the same.

Now, even in the face of warnings from OpenAI, Xtekky has decided to keep the repository. And, he also directly told OpenAI that if they want to take it down, they should make an official request to GitHub instead of himself.

"I think they contacted me earlier to force me to delete this repository myself," he said, "but the correct way would be to submit a formal DMCA request through GitHub."

And, even if GPT4Free never existed, as long as the APIs of these sites remain unprotected, anyone can find a way to use them.

"Right now, GitHub users are sharing and hosting the project everywhere," Xtekky said, "and it won't matter if I delete my repository."
